Emerging from the heart of Krakow’s vibrant music scene in 2019, MAW is a powerhouse Polish band blending the raw energy of the ’90s Palm Desert scene with their own unique sonic footprint. Originally born from impassioned jam sessions full of loud, heavy riffs, the band quickly evolved, crafting songs that have resonated with audiences across Poland and beyond.
In late summer 2019, MAW embarked on a creative journey to record their debut tracks at the acclaimed Vintage Record Studio in Poznań. Over an intense three-day session in November, six tracks were laid down, capturing the essence of the band’s dynamic sound. However, plans for the release and promotion of their debut album were delayed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, MAW persevered, and their self-titled debut album finally saw the light of day in January 2021, over a year after its recording.
The pandemic also brought a lineup change, with drummer Michal Gawronski departing in summer 2020. Stepping into the fold was Szymon Piotrowski, whose arrival infused the band with fresh energy. Together, the revitalized lineup recorded and released the »Citizens Of Dunes« single and music video, marking a bold new chapter for MAW.
While rooted in stoner rock, MAW’s sound transcends genre boundaries. Drawing inspiration from Tool and Pink Floyd, their compositions begin with riffs, chord progressions, or short licks contributed by band members. These ideas are then transformed through collaborative jam sessions and spirited discussions, resulting in tracks that are unmistakably their own. Listeners can detect echoes of Colour Haze, Causa Sui, Down, Alabama Thunderpussy, and Sleep, but above all, they’ll hear the distinctive voice of MAW.
