Progressive post-metal act Birdeatsbaby premiere new single and music video »HEX«, the title track from their upcoming album!

Progressive post-metal act Birdeatsbaby premiere a music video for the new single and title track from their upcoming album »HEX«, set to release via Dead Round Eyes / State 51 Conspiracy.

“The content and imagery draw on texts such as the Ars Goetia. The track can best be described as post-metal with vocals that switch from ethereal melodies to menacing growls. These rest on a hypnotic, polyrhythmic synth pattern, with lush cello arrangements and aggressive guitar riffs. The drum arrangement would sit well beside bands such as Tool or Porcupine Tree.”

Following the release of the first two singles, »Ribbons« and »Illuminate«, Birdeatsbaby now present their darkest creation, »HEX« – the title track from their upcoming album.

Travelling further into the realms of post-metal, Birdeatsbaby has created something that is at first celestial and enchanting, then escalates into a living nightmare.

The main vocals are delivered by Mishkin Fitzgerald who switches from ethereal melodies to menacing growls. The track is driven by a hypnotic, polyrhythmic synth pattern, the lush cello arrangements of Hana Piranha and aggressive guitar riffs of Garry Mitchell. Anna Mylee delivers a formidable arrangement of complex drums that would sit well beside bands such as Tool or Porcupine Tree. Production comes from award-winning Evan Rodaniche (of Cage9 fame).

In order to understand it’s true nature, »HEX« is a piece of art that must be witnessed. Collaborating with the incredible videographer and photographer Scott Chalmers (Jamie Lenman, Saint Agnes), Birdeatsbaby have created a visual spectacle that spanned three years in the making. With inspiration drawn from demonic texts such as the Ars Goetia, the viewer is confronted with terrifying visuals that leave whoever dares to view it to the end, astonished and unnerved. Depicting various infernal roles against a gateway to a hellish dimension, the band enact magick rituals and also perform the song on a stage decorated with pagan sculptures.

Biography:

Birdeatsbaby are a group of multi-instrumentalists that blend elements of rock, metal and cinematic music to create a sound that’s striking and unique. They have toured extensively through the UK, US, Germany and Mexico, supporting bands such as ASP, Coppelius and The Courtesans. Their previous releases have been produced by Paul Reeve of Muse fame and John Fryer (Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails…). Recently, one of their songs featured in »Close To Me«, in the hit Channel 4 thriller starring Connie Nielson and Christopher Eccleston.

The band travel through multiple genres while still retaining their signature dark and brooding sound. This signature sound is something that has been developed and honed over their past 5 studio album releases. Their last album, The World Conspires, was a pivotal part of this evolution that gained them notability in the spheres of modern progressive rock and metal. Reviewed by the likes of Orkus and Prog Magazine, the album was a departure from their previous work in which band leader, Mishkin Fitzgerald, stepped out from behind the piano and let her vocals take centre stage.

Birdeatsbaby’s name was literally dreamt up by Mishkin back in her teens after a particularly long bout of insomnia. Fitzgerald, having had most of her musical training at church, was strongly influenced by hymns, classical music and later on, all things rock ‘n’ roll. Joined by Garry Mitchell (guitar, bass) when the two met studying music at University in Brighton, a thriving musical partnership was formed, with a mutual love for dark and progressive music. After a few line-up changes the band has now settled with renowned drummer Anna Mylee, on drums and percussion, and the infamous Hana Piranha on violin, cello and harp.

The band has amassed a cult-like following across the world (aptly named “The Flock”) and been able to successfully crowd-fund each of their releases through Kickstarter and Patreon.

Birdeatsbaby now embark upon their latest project, »HEX«. This collection of songs is esoteric in theme, with a dark visual aesthetic that sees the band stepping further into progressive and post-metal territory.
