»Some Good Riffs« is the second album from Scotland’s strangest duo, Melted Messiah.
Formed in 2012, Melted Messiah are an independent DIY band that are self published and self promoted. They have evolved into an incredibly unique malevolent and enigmatic force, nothing like anything else that the Scottish metal scene has produced.
»Some Good Riffs« contains 7 tracks, all of them dismal and depressing, containing elements of sludge, doom, stoner rock, drone, thrash, punk, black metal and even jazz.
Mark Golder’s super-distorted guitar riffs are abrasive and straight to the point, whilst Jon Holt’s pounding, trashy yet intricate drums are coupled with Golder’s signature growls and screams.
Lyrical themes cover a plethora of subjects from historical Scottish mythological figures such as the wife of infamous cannibal Sawney Beane (»Black Agnes«), the tragedy of the countless women and men killed in the Scottish witch trials (»Shroom Witch«), to the plight of dogs in Eastern Europe’s “kill shelters” (»Diznaeland Nightmare Puppy«).
Musically the album goes anywhere from fast d-beat or black metal tremolo madness, some mid-paced crust punk and sludge, to ultra slow and heavy doom in a heartbeat and shows off a number of different musical styles, all of them hefty and dripping with a very old school raw sound.
Recorded almost entirely live at Edinburgh’s Secret Basement Studio, the album is lo-fi, raw and unpolished. Minimal processing has ensured that there is a certain honesty to the recording; which is a consequence of staying true to the band’s desire to capture an accurate representation of their live sound in all its simple feedback-drenched glory.
Melted Messiah’s »Some Good Riffs« album will be available on limited edition CD and digital download via meltedmessiah.com and Bandcamp, and on all major streaming services from 31st of March 2023.
About Melted Messiah:
Hailing from the doom soaked Kingdom of Fife Melted Messiah like things fast and like things slow. Never middle of the road. And always loud as shit!
With the guiding philosophy that “Nothing should sound good. Everything should sound horrific”. Melted Messiah take great pride in bringing you heavy riffery and mind bending drums reminiscent of an era before pro tools, click tracks and drum triggers. To quote Gordon Ramsey, “This is fucking RAW!”
They have terrorised the UK for the past four years gigging pretty much nonstop. Some more memorable nights of destruction were: Red Crust Festival 2022, Beermaggedon Festival 2021 which resulted in being invited back in 2022 and Scruffy Murphy’s Birmingham 2020, a DIY gig that they headlined and sold out. Everywhere Melted Messiah play the leave in their wake a trail of new fans and busted eardrums.
Their first 3 track demo, »Dead In Dunfermline« was released in October 2019 which was well received. It was favourably reviewed by Doomed & Stoned who also included our track »Sympathy In A Minor« on their »Doomed & Stoned in Scotland« compilation.
Their debut album was released on August 14th, 2021 and their second album which will be released in March this year.
Melted Messiah are inviting bookings for 2023 in UK and Europe.
