Kazea is a heavy, genre-defying trio forging dark and visceral anthems by blending the power of post-rock, the haunting melodies of neofolk, and the crushing weight of sludge – carving out their own path in the metal landscape.
Emerging from the shadowy recesses of the human psyche, their music resonates with an undercurrent of social commentary, self-reflection, and existential musings. Carried forward by the whispers of ancient spirits and primordial ancestors, their sound evokes a sense of the sacred – though rooted in heritage rather than belief in any higher power.
Formed by former Orochen members Jonas Mattsson and Rasmus Lindblom, Kazea came to life in summer 2023, when they joined forces with drummer Daniel Olsson (Hellsongs). Their debut album, »I. Ancestral«, is a cathartic exploration of heritage, pain, and redemption, brought to life through the sonic alchemy of Ulf Blomberg (HoboRec – recording & mixing) and Magnus Lindberg (Cult Of Luna – mastering).
The album also features guest vocalists Gina Wiklund (Black Birch, GASP) and Oskar Tornborg (Wormwood, Circular Ruin), adding layers of depth and emotion to the band’s already immersive soundscape.
The band had this to share: “Kazea is an outlet for dark thoughts and feelings accumulated throughout life. »I. Ancestral« is the first of several releases sharing a common tonal language – though we always aim to push beyond genre boundaries.”
Drawing inspiration from Wovenhand, Cult Of Luna, This Will Destroy You, Emma Ruth Rundle, and Neurosis, Kazea’s live performances offer a raw, stripped-down intensity – where each song is delivered with fierce, primordial passion.
