Soliloquium is a progressive death/doom metal band formed in 2011 by Stefan Nordström from Stockholm (Sweden).

The lyrics deal with modern life struggles, existential issues and other hard-hitting topics, personal and universal. Loss and strife is a constant, but so is hope and determination.

Expect alternating soundscapes both heavy and mellow, tied together by the atmosphere and musical language.

For fans of Katatonia, Daylight Dies, Slumber.

“Writing music can be a great way to reflect and finally close chapters of your life. In the case of »Famine«, this couldn’t be more true.

2020-2021 proved to be the dissolution of my life. I was never to be the same. As a result of digging into this, the multi-faceted hope and open reflection of 2022’s »Soulsearching« is completely gone on this album. There aren’t many dreamy shoegaze sections or “what ifs” on this album; this is pure abyssal hopelessness. That’s all I remember of those two years, and that’s exactly how »Famine« sounds like.

The album deals with everything from pandemic isolation and dissolving relationships to death, rebirth and artistic doubt. It feels like I needed to capture it and managed to do it. The album encapsulates the inner and outer chaos that was reigning. Now, it’s time to forget and move on.

Musically, I had to take a step back into death/doom metal at times to paint the right picture. It also represents a more cathartic side of Soliloquium’s music. I don’t want this to be a comfortable listen to nod your head along to – I want you to really feel it. This is dark suburban metal for the trapped, lonely and disharmonious. Lost in times of »Famine«.”
