Sheffield, UK based blackened post-metallers Ba’al are gearing up to release their new EP »Soft Eyes« on May 3rd, 2024 via Ripcord Records.

Tracklist:
01. Ornamental Doll
02. Yearn To Burn Bright
03. Bamber Bridge

The band comments: “Just one week to go until pre-orders go live for our new EP »Soft Eyes«, along with a sneaky peak of some of the music!

Digipak CDs will be available from Ripcord Records, and digital pre-orders will be available on our own Bandcamp. We can’t wait to start sharing new music with you.

3.5 years on from the release of our debut album »Ellipsism«, »Soft Eyes« builds on the sound of that release over three lengthy tracks that explore darkness and light both musically and lyrically, with expanded instrumentation including string quartet arrangements, synths and samples.

The EP was engineered, recorded and mixed by Joe Clayton at No Studio and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. The artwork and photography was all handled by our own guitarist, Nick Gosling.”

Three years since the release of their critically-acclaimed debut »Ellipsism«, with a wealth of live experience under their belts, Sheffield post-black metal quintet Ba’al are ready to unveil their new EP, »Soft Eyes«. Recorded at the renowned No Studio in June 2023 with producer Joe Clayton (Pijn, Earth Moves, Wallowing, Vow) behind the desk and released through Ripeord Records, these three tracks present the most powerful and challenging music Ba”al have produced to date, with every influence and instrument at their disposal woven into a tapestry of crushing riffs and emotive leads.

Each song tells a story, guiding the listener on a journey through mourning, sadness and grief – but often with a glimpse of hope on the far side; a reminder that no matter how dark the night, dawn is sure to follow.

Formed in 2016, Ba’al quickly established themselves as heavyweights of the Sheffield scene, winning the Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses competition in 2017 at first attempt. Their set at Bloodstock Festival drew praise from many, and led to a personal invitation from world-renowned metal producer Russ Russell (At The Gates, The Wildhearts, Dimmu Borgir, Napalm Death) to record a track at his famous Parlour Studios – the crushing single »Thy Sorrow«.

Following this and two EPs (one self-released, one on APF Records), Ba’al’s long-awaited debut album »Ellipsism« was released in 2020 on major UK extreme metal label Clobber Records. Subsequent UK-wide tours with Sheffield’s Gozer (in 2021) and Cardiff’s Ofnus (in 2023) have left their mark, with audiences across the UK left in awe of the power and raw emotion of their live performances.

Crushing doom riffs suddenly burst into blast-beats and blistering guitars, or swell into moodier atmospheric passages, with the emotion of the band’s melancholy and heart-wrenching songs on full display. Ba’al can be fiercely aggressive and crushing one moment, and delicately calm and quiet the next. Their sound takes influences from an array of heavy metal subgenres, rooted firmly in sludge and black metal while also exploring elements of doom, ambient, noise, progressive metal and post-rock.
