Outliers of the dark, underground music scene, margin walkers and explorers of the shadow places that lie between the known and the accepted, The Medea Project have built a reputation for inscrutable, indefinable and deeply affecting music through albums like »Sisyphus« and the critically acclaimed »Kharon«. Then, in the early days of the Spring just passed, they pushed the boundaries of their sound even further with the hypnotic »Akkadian Artefacts« EP – a collection rich in beguiling, bewildering magic born from a collaboration with Lucifer X of anti-pop band St. Lucifer…and now they have another secret from those sessions to share with us.

“The dead are the dead and forever will remain
The living are just dead, trapped in torment and pain…”

On June 27th The Medea Project will be appearing at the Darker Days festival in Leicester, a three-day Gothic celebration also featuring the likes of Guillotine Dream, The March Violets, Salvation and many more esteemed practitioners of sombre dreaming. To mark the occasion the band are unveiling a new two track single, »Komēn: Facets«, featuring never before heard music. »Purgatory Release« is a fevered reimagining of the »Purgatory Trapped« track that appeared on »Kharon«, a recording held back from the »Akkadian Artefacts« sessions. It is accompanied by »In Purgatory: Trapped« – the original and very different incarnation of »Purgatory Trapped«, resurrected and reshaped from the »Kharon« demos. »Purgatory Release« is built upon frenetic beats and driven by pulsing synths. A raw, fierce vocal intones its lyrics of resignation and desolation and it is infused with a late-night club, strobe light delirium, entwined with a subliminal melancholy and an aura of decaying technology. In contrast »In Purgatory: Trapped« is both haunting and haunted, steeped in isolation, sadness and regret. The sound of a lonely vigil beneath a flickering, dying streetlight, its simple revolving melody leading you ever deeper into the night, ever closer to final, irrevocable decisions.

“And we walk in this spiral, knowing just despair
Always on, always round, anchored to a thread…”

2026 is unfolding into a remarkable year for The Medea Project. It began with the Live At Dingwalls release, followed by the »Akkadian Artefacts« EP and now the »Komēn: Facets« single – with more live shows to follow Darker Days, including the band’s first European tour. And maybe, just maybe, something primal, something blacker is waiting in the wings… Enjoy the two sides of the same dream that »Komēn: Facets« has to offer – and beware the coming of night.

“Such is fate, when abandoned to the laws of gods
Always on, always round, never to see change…”
