“A curse blooms today. The fall of an entity captured. From a vast cosmic hunger for forbidden knowledge, to an aimless drift through the infinite cold until nihilism becomes freedom. A terrible serenity that comes from understanding that nothing matters and everything devours. A short journey into a long unraveling. Join us.”

Hailing from the north of England and enfolding black metal and doom, one within the other, travelling the hinterlands of both, Bruul can count amongst their number those with experience in the ranks of Petrichor, Sathamel, Knim, Fatalist, Ante-Inferno and more. But united in Bruul their pasts are of no consequence, their individual identities of little meaning…they become conduits for a sound, a song that they draw from the distant dark. Their live performances have become gatherings where a transcendental, ritualistic experience is shared and treasured, where Bruul become a memory of shadows in the minds of those who bear witness. And now the time has come for those rituals to be captured; for them to move beyond the lightless rooms of savage, hypnotic volume and bring their desolate whispers to the waiting world…

“The cold touch of stone, so jarring now against my skin – I know not who I am at all…” – »Symphony Of Misery« – Bruul

The journey into Bruul’s inner cosmos begins at the »Gates Of Silence«, in a blaze of raw, windswept guitars, torn apart by the cosmic winds that howl between the worlds. Sinuous melodies unwind through the tumult and voices cry on the edge of hearing, screaming in the tempest. »Words Of The Sword’ awaits beyond the gates, a triumphant battle hymn where a voice rises above the swirling stygian madness with a breathtaking clarity; a beacon, a watchfire, a storyteller. »Symphony Of Misery« follows – snarling chaos, raw thunder and driving force, yet drowning in the cold waters of melancholy. A black blood of grief and madness bleeds from a thousand wounds between the powerful, melodic riffs. Then, echoing chords and a beautifully controlled solo, a cascade of radiant, resonant notes, carry you into the vast void of space, to drift through eternity with »A Dawnless Star«. Here you experience the bleak, black doom of Bruul’s music of the spheres as you are cast into the emptiness and solitude of an endless darkness. It is left to ‘Blessed Is The Flame« to draw the listener back from the edge of forever, with a rush of formidable power…yet this power is infused with loss and sacrifice and an aura of ancient ritual. The same clear, clean voice that transformed »Words Of The Sword« seizes control of »Blessed Is The Flame« with its dramatic range and breathtaking presence, leading you like the proverbial piper with a melody drawn from folklore and secrets, on through the fires, on through the shadows, on towards the dawn. And the last sound that you hear is that voice, calling out through the endless aeons of time.

“To light the way and guide us home, dawn breaks the day – so far to go…” – »Blessed Is The Flame« – Bruul

The sound of Bruul was recorded, mixed and mastered by the band’s drummer, Joe Rees-Jones. No-one knows what the song demands like those who have been chosen to channel it. Meanwhile the artwork created to represent this journey through Bruul’s sonic labyrinth was created by Toxinfigure (Dwelling Plight, Hebi Katana etc). Your invitation to walk with Bruul, to hear the music they have been given to impart has been placed in your hand. Acceptance is a choice only you can make.
