Experimental heavy and drone duo Ungraven (with current and former Conan members) present a bleak and asphyxiating short second excerpt off their new album »Hollows Made Homes In Their Sunken Cheeks«, due out this April 18th on Heavy Psych Sounds.
“Scattered half-recollections curse in shadowed whispers. Haunted by echoes of ancient truths.
Is it paranoia or glimpses of an archetypal archnemesis?”
Feel the dread of »Hollows Made Homes In Their Sunken Cheeks«
Ungraven is a celebration of the nastier side of heavy music, the dirty noise metal and industrial heaviness that is sorely under-represented in this scene, progressing forward to crushing drone laced with ambient eeriness. On the new album »Hollows Made Homes In Their Sunken Cheeks«, Jon Davis (Conan) and David Perry (The Laze, ex-Conan & Dead Void) launch a glacial barrage of heaviness using synths, keys, organ, vocoder and guitar, conjuring images of social decline projected across imagined landscapes of a ruined future. As Doomed & Stoned editor Billy Goate state, “wordless and atmospheric, the experience becomes all the more powerful when you let the speakers shake your walls.”

The album »Hollows Made Homes In Their Sunken Cheeks« came into existence as a result of Jon Davis’ wishes to take the Ungraven sound somewhere other than a standard rock band setup. Moving away from the traditional drums/bass/guitar structure has allowed Ungraven to experiment further, allowing Davis and Perry to perform a sickening sonic duet as their respective instruments carve a universe-shaped hole in your consciousness.
Inspired by their past collaborations on Conan tracks such as »Older than Earth« and »Grief Sequence« as well as by artists such as Tangerine Dream, Circle, Zombi and Harold Budd, the album blends composed and improvised elements, crafted remotely from their respective home bases in England and Denmark. The addition of Perry’s synth, organ and piano to Davis’s slab-like 6-string delivery results in two 20-minute epics that are as introspective and as they are pummelling. Fall untethered into a bleak and expansive soundscape of psychedelic terror, and experience a new chapter in Ungraven’s tome of tone. Stream another deafening excerpt with »Nothing Is Less Than Zero (Part 1)«.
