UK-based funeral doom visionary Abysmal Growls Of Despair has released the video for »Growth«, split across two parts – Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 – due to its length. The single is a monumental composition taken from the acclaimed album Torn, available now via Wormholedeath.
Rather than presenting the song as a single visual piece, »Growth« unfolds across two interconnected chapters, allowing its emotional weight and slow-burning atmosphere to develop with the same patience that defines the music itself.
About »Torn«:
Funeral doom is often defined by glacial tempos, oppressive heaviness, and overwhelming emotional depth. On the album Torn, the project’s creator Hangsvart (Lerat) expands those boundaries with an unexpected creative decision. Instead of relying solely on mournful guitar leads, the album places brass instruments at the forefront of its melodies, adding a solemn, almost ceremonial character that perfectly complements its themes of grief, loss, and reflection.
Beneath those haunting melodies, crushing guitars create a dense, tectonic foundation while layers of ritualistic dark ambient and drone gradually envelop the listener. Every note serves the emotional narrative, resulting in an album that feels both immense and deeply intimate.
The lyrics for Torn were written by Jörg Püschmann, while the album artwork was created by Patrick Corcoran, completing a work that is as visually evocative as it is sonically devastating.

About Abysmal Growls Of Despair:
Abysmal Growls Of Despair is the main project of Hangsvart, active since 2013. The project blends funeral doom with ritualistic dark ambient and drone, drawing influence from acts such as Funeral Moth, Ataraxie, Comatose Vigil, SUNN O))), and Remembrance. Themes move through ancient spirituality, grief, and altered states of mind.
Hangsvart has been open about his long-term struggle with schizophrenia, which has shaped the emotional core of the project since its inception. That honesty defines the sound and direction of Abysmal Growls Of Despair.
