Formed in 2024, Desdemona is a gothic doom metal band from the south coast of the UK. Following the release of the EP »Corpus Maledicti« in 2025, »State Of Invocation« is the band’s debut full-length album.

The album explores the historical and ongoing persecution of women through religion, drawing on themes of witchcraft, superstition, propaganda, and institutional control.

Written and recorded as part of the band’s college Final Major Project, »State Of Invocation« combines doom metal, stoner and gothic influences, and their signature combination of dark, crushing instrumentals and ethereal, melodic vocals.

Desdemona carve a niche in the intricate realms of gothic doom metal with their unique mixture of haunting, raw melodies and commanding female vocals. Drawing inspiration from bands like Sins Of Thy Beloved, Witchfinder General, Electric Wizard, Candlemass, and My Dying Bride, Desdemona aim to deliver a sound that marries the raw, heavy and old school power of doom metal with ethereal, witch-like undertones.

Fronted by a dynamic female vocalist, Desdemona masterfully juxtaposes the stark, intense instrumentals of their music with hauntingly melodic vocal lines, crafting a soundscape that is both fierce and ethereal. This interplay strives to evoke emotions as diverse as their influences, consistently maintaining a delicate balance between beauty and darkness.
