Elliot and Ryan Cole have been stalwarts of the international stoner doom scene since they formed Desert Storm almost 15 years ago in their home town of Oxford, releasing six albums with that band and touring Europe like dogs ever since. They are two parts of the quintet which is The Grand Mal, also signed to APF Records, whose self-titled debut was released in 2019.

Their latest project Wall was conceived during lockdown. Frustrated at not being able to tour, and stuck at home together, Elliot and Ryan found themselves seeking a substantially creative way to kill the boredom. That creativity led to two EPs in 2021, and now their debut full-length album.

“»Cirrhosis«, the latest single is an interesting sounding track,” says drummer Elliot Cole. “Ryan tuned every string to G for this one. It’s quite a sludgy, downtuned bluesy number, with some slide quitar in there too. Half way through the song, it changes quite massively and ends in a hypnotic droney riff, over a drum tom rhythm which gave us Melvins / Soundgarden & Nirvana vibes. It was quite experimental and a bit different to the others on the album, but adds a nice flavour. As for the title, Ryan got diagnosed with ‘Fatty liver disease’ around the time we were looking for inspiration for the title. Luckily with a better lifestyle change (less sugar and more exercise mostly) it is reversible.. .however, when he was handed the leaflet from the doctors, the final stage if you don’t make improvements is »Cirrhosis«, which is irreversible….»Cirrhosis« looks bad, and isn’t just caused through excess alcohol consumption…anyway it sounded like a good title to a Wall song! It can be difficult finding good titles to songs as an instrumental band, you can see why Karma To Burn just numbered theirs!”

Over the last two years Wall have played at Bloodstock Festival, Desertfest, Rabidfest, Ruination Festival, Masters Of The Riff, Buried In Smoke Festival and played shows with Discharge, Will Haven, Boss Keloid, Puppy, Sugar Horse and Armed For Apocalypse amongst others.
