Odesa, Ukraine based doom metal outfit Generic Doom Band Name return with their new three-track EP, »Nasty Wizard«, which was just released this Friday, August 15th, 2025. Listen to »Nasty Wizard« on all major streaming platforms.

Says the band: “The songs from the EP »Nasty Wizard« were written back in 2021, and we only got the chance to record them now. There is a war going on in our country, and genocide of the ordinary population is taking place both inside and outside the country. This imposes a lot of restrictions. Because of this, we haven’t performed for over a year. But we are not giving up and are at least trying to record and release material.”

Generic Doom Band Name was formed in late 2020 in Odessa, Ukraine, and currently has two albums and one single released. Since its inception, the band’s lineup has changed several times, but Oleksandr Belinsky, who also has a side project called SunScore, remains the leader and driving force. GDBN’s music is a mixture of doom-themed genres, and the tracks often feature sharp changes in style and mood, but this only adds spice. The lyrics bring together a fictional world of creatures and substances, in which incredible events take place, describing in mystical language real incidents that could happen to any of us.

Speaking of the new EP, »Nasty Wizard«, it opens with a song of the same name describing the most ordinary stoner, whose highest values are beer and weed. The release continues with a powerful track about how every person, by virtue of being born, enters their own labyrinth, the exit from which is enlightenment itself. The mini-album closes with an epic narrative about the entire fictional world of GDBN’s lyrics, indicating that the core of this world is imagination.
While the band members’ hometown is at war, the group cannot afford to go on tour, so they have focused as much as possible on recording finished material.
