Soulmass is a duo made up of Lux Edwards and Brett Windnagle, making death/doom about Soulsborne lore and other dark and fantastical settings.
»Principality Of Mechanical Violence« showcases Soulmass at their most ferocious. A concise collection of pummeling death metal, inspired by the evils of authoritarian ideology found in the Universal Century of Mobile Suit Gundam. You cannot stop the colony drop.
Solo on »Victory Is Mine« by Joshua Payne.
Mastered by Michael Goodrich.
Album cover by Samuel Nelson.
Line-up:
Lux Edwards – Vocals, Lyrics
Brett Windnagle – All Instruments, Programming, Mixing
Soulmass was founded in 2013, under the original name Kingdoms of Flesh, as a recording project consisting of Brett Windnagle (Lascaille’s Shroud, ex-Vermiform, ex-Kingdoms Of Flesh, ex-Sedulity) and Lux Edwards (ex-This Solemn Vow, ex-Vermiform, ex-Wraithstorm, ex-Kingdoms Of Flesh, ex-Seven Kingdoms).
They released »The Age Of Darkness« EP before deciding to change the band name. In 2014, Soulmass released their debut full-length, »Despairing Fates«, which catapulted them to underground success among fans of the Soulsborne video game franchise with stand-out tracks like »Chronicles Of The Abysswalker« and »Hollow«. They returned after a hiatus to release their second full-length, »The Weakness Of Virtue«, in 2019, and an improved, remixed/remastered version of »Despairing Fates« in 2021. Their »Eidolon« EP in 2022, inspired by Final Fantasy IX, heralded a new direction for the band’s music and lyrics following the 2023 release of the third and final album in their Soulsborne-inspired trilogy, »Let Us Pray«.
Later in 2023, they released an EP based on Armored Core VI titled »Selling Rubicon By The Pound«, which began a new “arc” of Soulmass releases based on mecha/giant robots. In early 2024 they released their fourth full-length, »Principality Of Mechanical Violence«, inspired by the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise.
