Silent Deep Ocean is a funeral doom project of Gregory Ritchey. Fusing atmospheric doom, gothic metal, post-black metal, and dark ambient elements, his music dives into the abyss, where sorrow, salt, and soul converge in an ocean of melancholic beauty.
»Essence Of Existence II: The Blood Of Ghosts«
The shadowed margins of a shared journey.
These compositions exist in the shadowed margins of the main album – pieces that emerged from the same creative period and are cut from the same cloth. When assembling the original tracks for the CD, the allotted time was exceeded by more than twelve minutes, stretching well beyond the eighty-minute threshold. I concluded that the only viable path was to divide the material into a two-disc set.

The Process of poetical archaeology
In many ways, this release functions less as a conventional composition process and more as an act of excavation. Most of the pieces presented here originate from poems preserved in a large, worn binder written over twenty-five years ago. The material already existed in embryonic form; the task was to rediscover it, reinterpret it, and allow it to assume its final sonic shape. What emerges is the resurfacing of ideas, questions, and emotional states that have quietly persisted across decades.
Themes & The Abyss
The title »The Blood Of Ghosts« was first conceived over 23 years ago. It is an ironic title, suggesting that disembodied spirits possess life—and that assumption would not be entirely incorrect. A theme of perseverance runs throughout the corpus of my work. Although some of us exist in shadow, in that ephemeral staircase between waking and dreaming, there remains a spark – a small shaft of light, an ember of what once was, or what still might be.
A central motif is the Abyss – an infinite void bereft of substance, yet replete with shadows and the fading embers of the surface. It is a place where uncertainty dwells, but also the foundation where hopes and dreams are born.
Composition, lyrics, mixing and mastering by Gregory Ritchey.
Recorded from February 2025 – April 2026 at Abyssopelagic Studios, Venus, Texas.
Cover painting by William Trost Richards (1833–1905), an American painter.
