The heavy rock outfit Bone Dagger from Portland, OR unveiled their new EP on August 18th, 2023. »The Veil« EP explores an array of themes from social injustice and corporate feudalism to regret and self-discovery/actualization.

“Am I excited to release this? ‘Numb’ is probably closer to accurate. I’ve been sitting in these songs for so long, I think the excitement will be determined by whether or not people like it. But it’s done and I feel relieved.” – John Lund

Opening with »Filthy Machine« this track explores the role we all play in the social machine and the futility of fighting it. Escapism, it seems, is the only release. Followed by »Cycle Of The Self« this ventures on a sonic journey about being born blank of mind, reclaiming oneself, and transcending the realm of earthly delights by way of constant inner searching. »Hit And Run« uses a hit-and-run pedestrian accident as a metaphor for a devastating one-sided breakup with no opportunity given to fix what was thought to be a deep bond. Concluding with »The Veil«, this song is an anthem about our current state of corporate feudalism and the division the media and social outlets cause, while we walk around, unaware and squabbling with each other. A call for unity among the masses – the power structure fears the populace, this is why we are lead astray and enslaved by the almighty dollar day in, day out.

Bone Dagger was founded in 2020 by John Lund during the pandemic following a 7-year hiatus from any sort of musical output. Bone Dagger was devised with the intention of keeping as much in-house as possible with the exception of post-production. Around a year later Braden Richey joined the fold as the lead guitarist and contributed what you hear on this EP until taking a perpetual leave of absence in late 2022. John is pushing on as a solo act until the right members are found. Musically the band draws influence from a wide array of rock and metal acts including Gojira, Muse, Slipknot, and Alice In Chains.
