Gastonia, North Carolina based psychedelic space sludge trio Beyond The Portal stream their debut album, »Genetically Engineered«, which was just released on October 10th, 2025 via Babylonian Records. The cassette edition will be handled by Doomshire Tapes Cassette Kult.

Beyond The Portal is a neo psychedelic sludge metal band outta Gastonia, NC. The band was formed by Wesley “EvilTheWes” McCumbee (EvilLeaf) on guitar/rig of doom and harsh vocals. Alongside Vaughn Hughes (Digital Dolls) on lead guitar and clean vocals. Rounding out the trio we have multi-instrumentalist Deyvn Dayton on drums.

The bands main influences are Black Sabbath, Domkraft, Sleep, SpaceSlug, Monolord, Opeth, Kyuss, PallBearer, and Mastodon to name a few. Their brand of Music fuses down-tuned fuzzed out guitars over tribal laden hard hitting drums. Laced with spacey psychedelic overtone leads, melded with wailing vocals and death growls.

Beyond The Portal will independently release their debut album »Genetically Engineered«, via Vaughn and Evilthewes’ indie label Babylonian Records in 2025. The singles »Plan 9 For Planet 9«, »Origins Of Man« and »Singularity« can be found on Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms.
