Oceans Of Darkness is a four-piece blackened doom/death metal band from Costa Rica. Formed in 2020, the band features members of Astral Casket and Unholy Craft.
They released their debut single »Forevermore« on April 12th, 2024 as the first part of a conceptual story.
Oceans Of Darkness are Iván Diaz (bass, harsh vocals), Ignasio G. (guitars, clean vocals), Carlos A. (drums) and Pablo Gonzalez (guitars).
Can you say a few words about your band?
Founded in 2020 in Heredia, Costa Rica. We play blackened doom/death metal.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
To find/gather all the members for the band.
What can you be most proud of so far?
To have the best possible lineup. All members have been friends for many years before the band was born.
What was your biggest regret?
We think we don’t regret anything (yet).
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We have not play live yet.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Finding new local bands trying to create their own sound.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Doom, black and death metal.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“Make music because you love it, not to fit into any group or scene.”
What are your guilty pleasures?
For us there are no guilty pleasures, but if we had to name some, we could say: Ghost, Héroes del Silencio and indie rock.
Can you say something more about current music scene in Costa Rica?
We think it’s growing, there are a lot of heavy metal bands from different subgenres but many of them are part of the “preferential circle” (ass-kissers). That sucks. We are not and we don’t want to be part of that circle.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We will be playing live for the first time in the second half of 2025 somewhere near our city. We want to promote our music once we are ready for that.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We will be releasing a 3-songs EP in May or June 2025. Also, another single will be released 1-2 months later. Both releases, along with our first single (»Forevermore«), complete a conceptual story.
