Electric Valley Records presents the boundary-pushing Brazilian stoner outfit Gods & Punks’ fifth full-length, »Death«, scheduled for 26 July 2024 physically (four variants of vinyl) and digitally. The album narrates the story of the frontman Alexandre’s near-death experience in 2021.

Formed in the tropical city of Rio de Janeiro in 2013, Gods & Punks emerged as a beacon of exploration, blending the heavy riffage of Black Sabbath with the intricate melodies of Rush. Founded by brothers Alexandre and Pedro Canhetti, their journey began with a shared passion for the cosmic resonance of stoner rock. Inspired by a Monster Magnet song, the band’s name reflects their love for psychedelic music. Their debut EP, »The Sounds Of Earth« (2016), set the stage for their musical odyssey.

In 2017, Gods & Punks unleashed their debut album, »Into The Dunes Of Doom«, signaling a shift towards a more progressive sound. This marked the beginning of their epic “Voyage Series”, a musical narrative interwoven throughout their first four albums, with each track contributing a chapter to an otherworldly tale. Continuing this chronicle, they released their sophomore album, »Enter The Ceremony Of Damnation« (2018). As their sonic landscape expanded, so did their acclaim. Their third album, »And The Celestial Ascension« (2019), propelled them to new heights, earning critical acclaim and charting on esteemed platforms like the Doom Charts and Bandcamp’s best-selling records. Known for their dense, progressive compositions, their music resonated with audiences, carving a niche in the realms of heavy psychedelic rock.

During the tumultuous times of the Covid-19 pandemic, Gods & Punks didn’t falter; instead, they responded with compassion. Their acoustic EP, »Different Dimensions« (2020), not only showcased their versatility but also served as a charity project, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting struggling Brazilian families. In 2021, they culminated the monumental “Voyage Series” with »The Sounds Of The Universe«, garnering further accolades and engraving their formidable presence in the genre.

As the dust settled, the band embraced an indefinite hiatus. However, the silence was temporary. In 2024, Alexandre and Pedro assembled a new lineup to embark on their next phase. Mountains of Garbage« EP, released earlier this year, marked their return.

Their impending album, »Death«, unfolds as a cathartic exploration of frontman Alexandre’s harrowing near-death experience in 2021. Recorded across continents between Santos and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Paris, France, »Death« is a testament to the band’s resilience and artistic evolution. The album narrates a story through seven tracks, spanning 40 minutes of intense musical exploration.

From the traditional metal onslaught of »Slowburner« and »Loss of Reality« to the slow, heavy stoner-doom vibes of »The Night Of A Thousand Days« and »Decerebration«, each track offers a visceral glimpse into Alexandre’s ordeal. »The Space Between Spaces«, the album’s most psychedelic track, delves into the ethereal realms of the comatose, while »Archimedes’ Screw« captures the tension and urgency of the life-saving operation in a hospital waiting room. The album culminates with »Black Box«, a haunting reflection on the band’s collective experience and the creative process behind »Death«.

As Gods & Punks prepare to unveil »Death« under the banner of Electric Valley Records, they are also planning their inaugural European tour.
