Cold Blue Mountain is a Chico, California-based post-metal, sludge, and doom band. Formed in 2009, they are known for blending crushing, bloodcurdling screams, aggressive death metal breakdowns, and atmospheric post-metal elements.
The band was founded by guitarist and main songwriter Will McGahan, drummer Daniel Taylor and vocalist Brandon Squyres. They emerged from the local Chico heavy music scene in 2012 with their self-titled debut. Their sophomore full-length, »Old Blood«, followed in 2014. Over the years, the group has drawn comparisons to foundational acts like Neurosis and Amenra while creating a distinct, bludgeoning sound of their own.
The band returned with a reforged lineup featuring returning members Squyres, McGahan, and Taylor, joined by guitarist Nathan Collins and bassist/vocalist Chris Keene. They are set to release their most ambitious project to date, »The Healer«, on June 24, 2026 via independent label Vulture Print Records. It is a 74-minute concept record tracing the life of Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin.
