“Kréen, an atmospheric black/doom metal band from Chile, blends themes of immigration, death, and resistance with a genre-bending sound and poetic lyrics that evoke the desolation of forgotten heroes and the untamed spirit of Patagonia.”
Originating from the remote landscapes of Punta Arenas, Chile, where the Patagonian wilderness meets the world’s edge, Kréen derives its evocative name from the Selk’nam term for “moon.” This geographical and linguistic inspiration permeates their music, weaving a captivating sonic tapestry that transcends boundaries. Blending the deliberate tempo of doom metal with the fervor of black metal, Kréen’s compositions defy conventional genre classifications, seamlessly interlacing traditional metal guitar tones with intricate tremolo picking and thunderous blast beats.

Their first album, »Cenizas«, goes beyond mere music – it’s a thematic exploration of the colonization of Patagonia by the Argentinian and Chilean governments, chronicling a harrowing history of fire, blood, and the decimation of indigenous cultures. This haunting narrative highlights the near-extinction of the Selk’nam people, raising awareness of a lesser-known genocide while championing remembrance and justice.
On their second album, »Olas, Céfiros y Llamaradas«, Kréen presents a sonic journey from the sea to the plains, exploring themes like Chilote immigration, nature, mourning, death, and resistance. Combining poetry with genre-defying music, they honor the Patagonian spirit, offering a tribute to the land and its inhabitants and affirming resistance and hope amidst adversity. Through their melodies, Kréen invites historical reflection, nurtures empathy, and advocates for societal transformation.
“Through three acts (Olas, Céfiros, and Llamaradas), Kréen presents a sonic journey that takes us from the depths of the sea to the vast plains, exploring Chilote immigration, nature, death and mourning, resistance against oppression, and a profound reflection on legacy and memory. Their lyrics, infused with poetry, capture the very essence of life in this remote region, while their enveloping music blurs the boundaries of genre, even transcending into the folklore of their territory, emerging as a tribute to the tenacity of the Patagonian spirit. It is a homage to the land and its inhabitants, an affirmation of resistance and hope amidst adversity.”
