The Aarhus, Denmark based instrumental avantgarde rock trio Karambolage returns with their second album »Skælmsk« through Moment Of Horseplay on January 16, 2026, an honest, uncompromising and playful continuation of their 2023 debut »Prås«. End November saw the first preview of the album with the single »Ublu«, and today, the band shares the second offering with the heavy and dynamic GUS, alongside of a live video from the album recordings, that shows the band recording the exact take of the track featured on the record.
Guitarist and composer Daniel Blaabjerg-Zederkoff states on »Gus«:
“I wrote GUS while living three winter months in Helsinki, far from my usual Danish circles, in a heavy, blue-black and freezing darkness where everything slows down and weighs more, and in sudden waves of intense heat from the Finnish saunas that hit just as hard and pull the tempo even further down. Back home, the three of us pushed the track into its final shape.
It’s the heaviest and hardest-hitting piece we’ve done so far, dark, forceful doom, and if progressive doom is a genre at all, that’s probably where it lands. It refuses to settle. It leans, rises and falls, drops and collapses. We ended up with a first-take live recording, and I caught myself grinning along the way, as I often do playing with these guys.”

Untranslatable »Skælmsk« captures Karambolage’s musical ethos, suggesting a kind of mischievous precision; playful but deliberate, smiling on the edge of collapse. The music grins crookedly, yet bites hard. It toys with expectation, with rhythm, with what almost repeats but never quite does. Guitarist and composer Daniel Blaabjerg-Zederkoff elaborates:
“»Skælmsk« is about daring to be honest, precise and playful at once; to move between fragility, the melody that touches and moves, and the dissonance and riffs that tears at your ears and sends a friendly gut punch.”
Recorded live over two intense days at Feedback Studio, Aarhus, »Skælmsk« captures eruptive fuzz, transparent textures, obsessively detailed guitar work and the trio’s telepathic interplay. No click, no grid; only sudden drops and rises in tempo, stretched bars, and a freedom that balances chaos and intention. The music is dynamic and organic, yet meticulously shaped; raw but refined; aesthetic and honest.
Karambolage moves along the fault lines between avant-garde post-rock, explosive desert rock, dissonant jazz and progressive doom. Its three members are, or have been, active in bands such as Bersærk, Eigengrau and IIIrd Alternative.
On stage, the trio has earned a reputation as a phenomenal live act, performing at SPOT Festival, Colossal Weekend, Vinterjazz, and supporting Aiming for Enrike and Astrosaur. New shows in support of »Skælmsk« will be announced in the near future.
