Doomed Confessionary: Christian & Dirk (AusgangsSPERRE)

AusgangsSPERRE is a garage stoner rock band from Saarland, Germany – founded in February 2020 during curfews.

The band released 7 albums: »Girls Graves And Space« (March 2021), »Motherfucker« (September 2021), »Power« (August 2022), »Come Closer« (May 2023), »Space And Mind« (January 2024), »Ancient Folks« (January 2024) and »Forbidden Planet X« (May 2024).

AusgangsSPERRE currently consists of Christian Marx (guitar, synthesizer, vocals) and Dirk Herzog (drums).

Can you say a few words about your band?
We started out during the Covid curfews. After going in different musical directions the band has now found its style. The casualness of the drums, the unusual sounds of the guitars, the versatility of the vocals all come together to form a whole that is characterized by the fullness and power of the sound.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Our music is complex sound wise and to recreate a live performance close enough to the studio recordings. This requires a lot of gear and technique. Means we bring our gear and PA to the live venue and provide an astonishing live sound.

What can you be most proud of so far?
We get a lot of positive reactions of the audience to our music. Our music is sitting in a niche and is certainly not mainstream, but I hope that the listeners recognize our play together so harmoniously and our fun doing so.

What was your biggest regret?
To be part of festivals we would need a record label contract and professional booking. As far we have no plans to join a label and as a result we can’t join festivals as a band. The downside when music is a business and not based on the love for tunes and sound.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Our last concert was quite good. Small venue but we had a good setlist of songs. We don’t tour for the moment and play only concerts close by.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
We are surprised about the positive reactions to our music. As mentioned, we’re not mainstream but it seems we do fine.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Dirk Herzog: Kampfar – »Ophidian«.

Christian Marx: Failure – »Fantastic Planet«.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Joey Ramone: “Play before you get good, because by the time you get good, you’re too old to play.”

What are your guilty pleasures?
Dirk Herzog: Smoking.

Christian Marx: Car racing.

Can you say something more about the music scene in Saarland / Germany?
Stoner rock is not so common in this area. It is not easy to find venues who likes off mainstream music preformed.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Our bass player has left us, we can’t perform life for the moment.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
More recordings, more concerts, new bass player!!

How can people best support your band?
We are happy about likes and the album sales on Bandcamp. This helps us to maintain the gear and our rehearsal facility.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoy playing and creating the music for you.
