Doomed Confessionary: Brad, Andrew & Mitch (Voidlurker)

Voidlurker is a doom/sludge metal band hailing from Birmingham, UK. Formed in 2017, this trio delivers exactly what you’d hope for: down-tuned riffs, thick fuzz, and a weight that doesn’t let up. Vocals come coated in grit, guitars rumble with low-end menace, and the whole thing moves with the kind of deliberate, unstoppable force that defines the genre. Voidlurker aren’t trying to rewrite the rulebook, they’re here to hammer it home.
Their first recorded outing came in 2018 with a two-track demo featuring the bleak standout »Bitchcraft & Misery«. In 2019, they hit Foel Studios to record the »Industrial Nightmare« EP with producer Chris Fielding (Conan). The result was four tracks steeped in Birmingham’s signature doom-laden atmosphere.
Years of gigging followed – sharing stages with the likes of Raging Speedhorn, Conan, Crowbar, The Obsessed, Viking Skull, Iron Void, OHHMS, and Witchsorrow – before the band returned to Foel in 2024. Again working with Fielding, they recorded their second EP »Loathe For Life«, released on September 26th, 2025 via APF Records.
Four tracks. No frills. Just full-force, old-school doom. Brad Thomas delivers the gravel-drenched vocals and thunderous riffs. Andrew Rennie brings the low-end weight on bass. Mitch Bishop hits with precision and power behind the kit. Voidlurker might be part of the new wave, but they carry the same crushing spirit that’s defined Birmingham metal from the start.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
We’re a doom/sludge band that formed in Birmingham at the end of 2016 and are still hungry to play shows as we were at the beginning.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Not being able to record a new record for 5 years due to covid and finding a new drummer.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Supporting Crowbar, supporting Conan as that was a dream since the beginning and playing Bloodstock. We’ve just released a new record named »Loathe For Life« that’s got a lot of good reviews. Just putting music out into the world alone is a huge achievement.
What was your biggest regret?
We regret nothing.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
The first time we supported crowbar is easily one of our favourites, the crowd gave so much energy and opening up for a band that is a huge inspiration for us was amazing.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
How many great bands are in the underground.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Brad: Right now its a mixture of The Beatles, Biggie Smalls and Black Sabbath.
Andrew: At the minute its Electric Wizard, Pantera and Black Sabbath.
Mitch: Black Sabbath, Sleep and Elliot Smith.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Henry Rollins once said “No such thing as spare time, no such thing as free time, no such thing as down time. All you got is life time. Go.”
What are your guilty pleasures?
We don’t really believe in guilty pleasures, although some artists we listen to may surprise people.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Birmingham?
Venues in Birmingham seem to open up, have a big boom of an audience and then closes down, its quite sad really.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We have a few local unannounced gigs coming up and plan on playing a lot all over the country next year.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Play outside of the country, release more records and keep on writing.
How can people best support your band?
Buy our shit, come to shows and blow some smoke our way.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more shows and riffs.
