Terra Black is a stoner/doom band formed in 2020 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The band consists of lead singer/guitarist Ezgi, drummer Sophie, bassist Denice and guitarist Isak. Their sound are embraced by an atmospheric and massive soundscape where dark lyrics about the devil, witchcraft and astronomy meet.

The band recorded their first single »Triple Goddess« in May 2021 and their second single »Capra« a year later. In June 2023 their first album »All Descend« was released which is also re-released as CD and cassette on Bonebag Records in July 2024. Terra Black recently premiered a brand new single »Tethers«, out now through Bonebag Records.

Can you say a few words about your band?
First of all, we’d like to thank Bojan and Doomed Nation Zine for this interview! We are Terra Black, four people from Gothenburg/Sweden who find peace in dark and doomed music.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
I don’t think we’ve actually faced many challenges in our musical journey yet (knock on wood), but it used to be harder to spread our music and network with big festivals. However, things are improving now! It is also a little bit challenging that, in addition to music, we have full-time work and other responsibilities. We would love the idea of dedicating 100% of our time to music.

What can you be most proud of so far?
We have great musical chemistry in the band, and I am really proud that we create our songs together. It’s not just that each of us writes for our own instruments; we also contribute ideas for all the instruments. We are very good at giving each other the feedback and support we need. Additionally, we have discipline—no one has ever been late to rehearsals, gigs, or any other commitments. We are a responsible band!

What was your biggest regret?
No regrets at all!

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Gefle Metal Festival in July 2023 was our best concert so far. We played at the same festival as world-famous bands, and even though some of them performed at the same time as us, we still drew a huge crowd. The sound was amazing – the technicians did an awesome job and were incredibly helpful. That was a magical moment for us!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
There are so few places for local bands to play, and the number keeps decreasing. Many venues are closing, which is really sad.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Actually, everyone in the band has different tastes in music, ranging from black, death, and doom metal to desert rock. However, one thing we all agree on is that we don’t like happy music. Our musical rotation focuses on music that makes you feel a sense of acknowledging darkness and finding peace and happiness in chaos, much like Gothenburg’s weather.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Trust what you do. Don’t try to sound perfect. Art lies in the little imperfections.

What are your guilty pleasures?
I steal beer glasses from the venues where we play, also like posters of festivals we attend. Some of us listen to power metal and like raves if that counts!

Can you say something more about the music scene in Gothenburg?
Gothenburg is known as the metal capital of Europe, so we have a highly active music scene here. We are also a big family that supports each other and strives to keep the rock and metal scene alive.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We have planned a couple of concerts around Gothenburg and one in Eksjö. The last planned concert of 2024 will be in Gothenburg in November!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We are currently working on our album, which is set to be released in 2025. Our plan is to tour Europe and play in as many festivals as we can! We’d also like to play in the USA in the future!

How can people best support your band?
The best way to support us is to listen to our music, come to our concerts, and follow us on social media! We thank everyone who listens to and spreads our music!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you! We’ve reached many people in such a short time! Tell us where you’d like to see us live!
