Can you say a few words about your band?
LanternI (lanterneye) is a 4 members sludge/post metal band with some atmo-black and noise elements from Budapest, Hungary. We’ve been making music together since 2016…although the members have known each other for more than 10 years.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Make people understand that the pronunciation of the band is LanternEYE 🙂

What can you be most proud of so far?
That a band can work so freely and great with such different individuals. It is really uplifting to play music together.

What was your biggest regret?
We have been waited for over 7 years to have a physical version of our album, and also the same amount of time to appear on music streaming applications. This year was the turning point to get these things sorted out.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We usually have concerts in Budapest, and like opening for great bands we admire like Naxatras, Inter Arma or Hexes, it’s always a pleasure. Also we appeared in the Fekete Zaj festival two times, once with a special collab concert with the Entrópia Architektúra. That festival is far have the best atmosphere you can get. But for example the latest gig in Székesfehérvár with Silhouettes of Baldur, LEM and Dvvad was also great. We haven’t played too much live recently and this gig with our close friends’ groups was fantastic.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Gyula: Poppy and Knocked Loose working together so damn fine, and the Opeth is back to growling.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Gyula: Everyone has it’s own taste in music, with some mutual favorite, but here are some bands what are recently rolling for the band: Humanity’s Last Breath, Weston Super Maim, 3Teeth, Death Grips, Zozobra, Moth Gatherer, Norma Jean, Inhale/Exhale, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Amenra, Mist Of Misery, Kingcrow, Cult Of Luna, Om, Earth and lots and lots of other, including hiphop, electro, etno, classical.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
It is worth to listen to young, new generation musicians rather than old. You can get lots of great advices from youngsters. They know much more about music now than the oldies. Also, if you hit the wrong note, keep playing it for some round and it will sound intentional.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Turbofolk, 90s hits, commercial techno, icelandic rap, Lana Del Rey. As a band, lame puns makes the majority of our conversations, the rest is to communicate with lyrics of Hungarian punk/rock bands.

Can you say something more about current music scene in Budapest?
There are some pretty exciting bands in the sludge/post/doom scene like Boru, Torn From Earth, Hiraeth, Black Particles, all of them has their unique tone. I think the musical response on the changes of the world is really creative and heavy. There are tons of great bands. Budapest underground life is really great, local bands countrywide are fckn awesome.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
This year was and will be a more quite one, we didn’t plan too much beside to finish and publish the album »Frontier«.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Writing, producing, publishing. Some gigs. Now we are in the writing phase.

How can people best support your band?
Just listen to our music, help spreading our stuffs. If you have a chance to meet us in a concert don’t miss it.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Do not ignore any kind of music. Music is the only language spoken world wide. So communicate!
