Doomed Confessionary: Ingo & Timo (Atomic Peat)
Atomic Peat is a stoner/fuzz rock power trio from Osnabrück, Germany.
They released their debut album »Octophobia« in 2016. In their dense and punchy sound, they often flirt with the fuzz, but it is not a constant companion in their songs. Stoner rock? That would be too easy, but Atomic Peat don’t make it that easy – the musical preferences and influences of the three band members are too diverse to stick it into a box. Here, stoner rock collides with catchy hooks, grooving thick and sick riffs with a pinch of metal. Once you’ve heard one or two songs, you’ll be very surprised at what awaits you by song three, four, five….
Atomic Peat is currently gearing up to release their second full-length album, »Demons And Other Friends«, which will see the light on January 10th, 2025.
Can you say a few words about the band?
Atomic Peat is a power trio from Osnabrück, featuring Ingo on guitar and vocals, Timo on drums, and Daniel on bass. Our sound is intense and dense, sometimes with a hint of fuzz, but that’s just one part of it. We mix stoner rock with catchy hooks, groovy riffs, and a touch of metal – we don’t make it easy for listeners to fit us into one box.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
One big step was independently releasing our debut album »Octophobia« in 2016. Now, with our new album »Demons And Other Friends«, we’ve put everything we have into further developing our sound to create an experience that’s both heavy and catchy. The challenge is always to stay true to ourselves while exploring new musical directions.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Definitely building up a fan base through our energetic live shows and sharing the stage with well-known bands like Skaeckoedlan, Red Fang, and Life Of Agony. It’s amazing to see people really connect with our sound.
What was your biggest regret?
Our biggest regret is waiting too long to release our second album. We relied too much on others, which caused delays. In music, it’s important to take risks and not overthink things – we had to learn that lesson.
What was your best concert so far and why?
Our best show was definitely a festival gig with 20,000 people at peak time. The organizers invited us not because of our (unfortunately still limited) online clicks, but because they knew we’d deliver a strong live performance. The crowd’s energy was electric, and we gave it everything we had. That’s why we make music – for moments like that.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Seeing how passionate the stoner and metal community is. The scene is genuinely open to new music, and the support from fans and other bands is incredible.
What is currently in your heavy music rotation?
Right now, we’re listening ad celebrating the new Green Lung album. We like the latets album from 1000mods, wich is stirring ap mixed opinions. As an old Alice In Chains fan, I also enjoy the new Jerry Cantrell work, along with stoner rock bands like Slomosa and Lowrider. These are bands that inspire us and push boundaries with their sounds. We listen to a mix of styles that influence our own sound.
What is the best advice you have ever been given as a musician?
“Stay true to yourself and make music you’d love to listen to.” This helped us find our direction and trust in our unique sound.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Ingo: Constantly tweaking my gear, especially my effects board, instead of focusing on new music. The quest for the perfect fuzz pedal, for example, seems endless. You could definitely call me a gear nerd.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Osnabrück?
Osnabrück has a small but passionate music scene. People here love live music, and there are clubs and promoters who give their all to support the underground scene. It’s a great place for bands like us.
Where can we see you live next year?
We have a few shows in the works, mostly in northern Germany, and we hope to play at some festivals too. We’ll announce all the details soon on our social media – stay tuned!
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We’re already working on the follow-up album, with studio sessions scheduled for November 2025. We want to keep making music that we and our fans enjoy while continuing to develop our sound. A European tour would be a big dream, and we’re open to whatever the future holds..
Do you have any special plans for New Year’s Eve?
We’ll probably celebrate with friends and make plans for the coming year. Maybe we’ll have a little jam session – there’s no better way to start the new year than with music.
