Doomed Confessionary: Jon, Carlos & Ian (Psalm)

Psalm is an up-and-coming doom metal trio from Las Vegas, Nevada. Formed in 2020 during the Covid pandemic, Psalm consists of Jon Torres (bass/vocals), Carlos Martinez (guitar) and Ian Henneforth (drums).

Evolving from the old school doom of yore into the modern age, the three-piece concoct a vicious blend of heavy, groovy, and a bit of speed to craft the Psalm sound.

Recently having the opportunity of being featured in Weedian’s 2024 »Trip to California (Doom Edition)« compilation, and recruiting new members Carlos and Ian (Sonolith), a bright future for Psalm glimmers from the shadows. Heralding the new era is sophomore EP »In Darkness… Have Mercy«, released on July 15th, 2025.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
We are Psalm, a doom metal band from Nevada with a twist of old school and new!

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
One of the biggest challenges I would have to say we faced was probably the pandemic. We formed in 2020 and originally planned to release our debut ep then, but we got sideswiped by covid. I’m still very thankful everything worked out the way it did.

What can you be most proud of so far?
So far we’d have to say the recording of this new EP! It’s not only shown us what we’re capable of achieving but how much hunger we have to continue writing for the follow up! Which shouldn’t be to far off.

What was your biggest regret?
As much as we all try not to we all still have those little things we look back on and think we could’ve done better the first time around, including with Psalm. Of course wouldn’t change a thing in our career it’s led us to where we are now, but we were abit quite for awhile after Covid, maybe we could’ve been more active.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
The first ones that comes to mind would have to be when we played with Weedeater here in our home of Las Vegas, Nevada. It was the start of a new era for Psalm debuting new songs and gaining a lot of momentum along the way as well. Another show would be when we opened up for Pentagram in West Hollywood at the Whisky A Go-Go we had a blast and we definitely carried the adrenaline with us over the next three days as we entered the studio to start tracking the new EP!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The biggest shock for us was right off the bat how friendly and welcoming everybody was! Before his joining Ian was one of if not thee first persons we met here in the doom community! not long after that meeting he started appearing behind the throne!

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
At the moment across members we’re currently Spinning Daytrippers (AZ), Softsun (CA) & Black Dahlia Murder!

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Some advice given to us that’s definitely stood from all members would be to keep practicing, play with as many musicians as you can, everyone needs a bass player never stop playing bass, and the last one would be consistency.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Haha I guess some of ours would have to be Hockey (Ian), Cars (Carlos), Video Games (Jon).

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Las Vegas?
We definitely have to say there’s something for everyone out here, after the pandemic there have been a swam of new musicians coming out!

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Currently the only show we have planned for the time being is our EP show on August 9th here in Las Vegas at rue Grey Witch!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Next on our list will definitely have to be to finalize and record our debut full-length LP! And to play some more out of state shows to people who haven’t heard about us yet!

How can people best support your band?
However you can! Streaming the songs, sharing, liking our posts! We also have a Bandcamp that we’re gonna stock up with merch soon after our release show!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
We’d like to say thank you to everyone whose supported us from buying merch, to coming to shows and checking out our music it truly means a lot to have this reaction and we’re very grateful for it all!
