Hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, SunBëarer brings a potent blend of heavy riffs and atmospheric vibes. Rooted in the Appalachian region, their music reflects the rugged landscapes of their origin. Embodying the spirit of their surroundings, they’ve established themselves as a force in the Asheville music scene, delivering a powerful and authentic stoner doom journey.
Following a handfull od singles, SunBëarer’s debut full-length album »Uyaga« dropped on August 13, 2025. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Brandon Davis at Fuzz Mtn Audio, Asheville, NC.
SunBëarer are Jordan Hunsucker (vocals, guitar), Alex Marr (guitar, vocals), Rob Roza (bass, backing vocals) and Elan O’Neal (drums).
Can you please say a few words about your band?
SunBëarer’s purpose is to connect people through the power of music and to bring us all together via some sort of supernatural state of esoteric worship. That’s always been the calling of the band and always will be.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Oh man haha! The biggest challenge?.. lol
I mean we’re in a touring underground regional band so it’s just challenging in general haha. You name it , everything from finances to the self marketing game we all have to play now a days, to the “how the fuck are we gonna get to the gig ” kinda shit we have been there lol.
What can you be most proud of so far?
The Asheville music and arts community… We are super privileged to have such a vibrant, talented and diverse community of artists and musicians in our city and we’re all really proud that our band gets to be a part of that.
What was your biggest regret?
I mean I can’t speak for the other guys but my personal regret is that when we first formed and got the point of where we started to get momentum, I didn’t keep my ego in check and it affected the band dynamic negatively.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Conan!!! \m/ I think it’s safe to say that was the moment this year haha… We had absolute blast playing those guys. Some super sweetheart and down to earth talented guys. The tour with Auralayer early this year was amazing as well. We got to play with a bunch of scene homies like Bronco and Cosmic Reaper on that run and all the shows were sick!
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
We played The Orange Peel for a local showcase here in Asheville, which is a pretty big space for us right now and we all thought is gonna be a bust haha, but it was actually really cool and people showed up. We were kinda blown away. Again we love this place so it was cool to see people come out support the local scene.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Right now it’s Thou, LLNN, Electric Wizard, Chained To The Bottom Of The Ocean, Sunn O))), Black Braid and Belphegor.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Just go do it.. Don’t wait. Don’t procrastinate and tell your self can’t. Just get out there and start doing shit.
What are your guilty pleasures?
The band HIM, 90’s Country and scented candles lol #sorrynotsorry
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Asheville?
I mean we are clearly an Asheville Strong band all day considering I’ve doted on my home for alot of the interview, so I think you get the point lol. We love this scene and this city with our whole black little hearts lol
Where can we see you live soon (concerts/tours)?
We are talking to a couple of bands and venues about a couple of runs in the new year already but nothing I can announce yet. Stayed tuned… lol. I can say it’s some cool shit we’re all excited about it.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Right now we’re just in preparation for recording a new record. Other than that we are focusing on growing other in other ways until it’s released.
