Doomed Confessionary: Mina, Nate, Emma & Håkon (Gloombound)

Gloombound is a five-piece atmospheric death/doom metal band from Oslo, Norway. Founded in 2022, the band consists of Nate Gundersen (lead guitar), Håkon Leira (rhythm guitar), Emma Theneus Sønstebø (fretless bass, backing vocals), Eirik Haukaas (keyboards, organ) and Mina Halvorsen (drums, vocals).

Gloombound have released their debut album »Dreaming Delusion« on July 25th, 2025 in digital format. »Dreaming Delusion« will be reissued on CD on November 21st, 2025 via Gruesome Records.

This is the coalescence of consequence. 45 minutes of beautiful and tragic cavernous, wistful, atmospheric death/doom that slowly grinds you into shreds. Drown into this titanic abyss of massively dark psychedelic sonic magic.

Fans of Spectral Voice, Skepticism, diSEMBOWELMENT, Shape Of Despair, Colosseum, and the like, pay heed.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
Gloombound from Oslo, Norway is the sound of manic curses and rituals of fate. A band possessed by the spirits of old school death metal and dreamily somber grave-doom. With haunting leads and disgusting riffs Gloombound’s spectral atmosphere trascends you beyond being.

Gloombound creates music that is saturnine, depressing, evil and manic on the surface. But, at it’s core it’s beautiful, somber, peaceful, even spiritual and hopeful.

Looking to bands like diSEMBOWELMENT, Spectral Voice, Dream Unending, Rippikoulu and Tideless for inspiration, whilst processing their own unique magick mixture and psychedelic sonic sorcery

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Our biggest problem as a band has actually been making our debut record »Dreaming Delusion«. It was our first time recording in a semi-professional setting and maybe we should’ve come a little more prepared. The first thing that went wrong was that I (Mina) spent far too long recording drums, I think I spent about like three to four days recording from 12-22 with only a couple small breaks to eat and listen to what mess I had managed to hammer together on the kit. On the second day I was already exhausted so it just made recording harder and harder. I was struggling haha, and I unfortunately had to simplify a bit of the drums because I simply didnt have the stamina anymore at that point. We recorded at Studio Torment (RIP) which was only one room, the “lounge” and the drumkit were in the same room… So I spent about four days recording while the others sat around not being able to do anything, which probably contributed to the rest of the recording process slowing even further down. We were probably the slowest band ever (get it haha). At the end of the week, there was a couple things we didnt manage to record, so we had to book another weekend a month later. After that we spent like eight months trying to scramble everyone together so we could mix the record, and it took far too long. But, the result felt worthwile. In the end we’re really happy with what we ended up making! We’ve got such a good response and I’m sure most people that listen to the album couldnt tell it took almost a year from when we stepped into the studio to it being finished.

What can you be most proud of so far?
The release of said debut and the release concert! We were met with utterly positive feedback and great vibes as we stepped unto the stage to play dreaming delusion in its entirity.

We’re also very proud of what we’ve achieved so far basically independently as well.

What was your biggest regret?
We don’t really have any regrets haha, but maybe not giving a shot at trying to find a label to release the record on? We don’t really know, it went really well releasing it on our own, and when we were finally done with the album, we just wanted to release it you know.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Has to be the forementioned release concert of our debut album. Another honorable pick is our support concert for Neseblod Records with our friends Ruun and Sovereign when Neseblod suffered a fire in the basement.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Everyone is too kind, I (Mina) wish I had more time to talk to everyone I’ve met during our concerts and show our appreciation for their unending amount of kindness and support. We truly love each and every interaction.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Mina: »Pink« by Boris, »Eye Of Water« by Tideless, »Malignity« by Vile Apparition, »At The Foothills Of Deliration« by Faceless Burial, and winter is coming around so I’ve been playing a lot of Thergothon’s »Stream From The Heavens«.

Nate: I haven’t really been listening to much metal recently, but I’ve been listening to a little Cryptopsy.

Emma: Castle Rat and Maudlin Of The Well.

Håkon: Been listening to Regurgitate, Malignancy and Mephitic Corpse. Throw in some Thin Lizzy and Scorpions as well.

What are your guilty pleasures?
None, we don’t feel any guilt muahahahahah.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Oslo?
The death metal scene in Oslo is flourishing more than ever I’d say, new bands pop up every couple of months and they’re all given a chance which I think is really nice. Without people giving us a proper shot I think we’d still be in the basement or something. People think Oslo or I guess Norway as a whole is more of a black metal country, but these days I’d confidently say Norway and Oslo are death metal through and through. And, though we’re far away from having the same recognition as say Copenhagen/Kill-Town, we’re slowly creeping towards being recognized as a death metal country.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
The year is coming to and end and unfortunately we don’t have any plans until next year (2026), but next year we have one concrete concert in Bergen with Fanatisme in February, and two more currently in the plans. Hopefully just a couple of many next year! We are in the talks of supporting Gud and setting up a release gig for them as they’re releasing an EP soon. Since they supported us on our release gig, let’s help them out on theirs you know.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We’ve just released an album; »Dreaming Delusion« check it out on Bandcamp or Spotify etc etc, but we already have plans of releasing a single or split sometime early next year. We’re definitely moving in a more death metal oriented sound, but we’re also aiming for a way more atmospheric sound as well. Keyword is Dream Unending I guess haha. But the next thing you’ll hear from us will be a release that is far more manic and demented. So expect a single or a split soon, if we haven’t released it by next summer expect that we’ve moved on to making our sophomore album.

How can people best support your band?
Follow us on Instagram as that is where we’re the most active, come to a show, buy the album on Bandcamp or wait for us to get it on vinyl hopefully soon. And of course just check us out on your streaming platform of choice. Any amount of support is greatly appreciated and we do not take it for granted. Thank you.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you for the attention and support. We hope we can endure this blissful future together.
