Doomed Confessionary: Mitch (Hellgo)

Hellgo started up in 2020 from the ashes of Crtvtr and Naat as an instrumental trio. Soon they realized that their music would have been more complete adding a second guitar and vocals, so they did. Now they’re a five-piece band and they offer a massive dose of contaminated post-hardcore.
Hellgo recently signed with Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records for the release of their debut album, »Etiquette«, which will see the light on December 13th, 2024. Recorded, mixed and mastered at Greenfog Studio, Italy.
Can you say a few words about your band?
We’re Hellgo, a post hc band from Genoa (Italy) with former members of Naat, Crtvtr and Banshee that was born in 2020 (first formation). Exactly in the middle of the pandemic. “First formation” because at first we’ve been an instrumental trio (Frenk, Mitch, Gio), then became a quintet in the following years when a second guitarist (Ale) and a singer (Fish) joined this mess, ahah!
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
The time, for sure. You know it’s hard to manage all the things to do according to everyday life. We’re all workers, I mean, music isn’t a job for us, so… we’re forty, we have sons, but we’re facing it well, we’re sturdy.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We’re proud of being always ourselves, even when we play or compose, or perform; five old friends who love doing what they do together. No masks, no personalisms.
What was your biggest regret?
If we only had a time machine… we’ve lost so much time to enlarge the band. Honestly we could have done it earlier.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Well, we’re active since the end of the pandemic, so we’re quite fresh… but we can say that our first performance was in a boulder gym (with Isaac) and the stage was a boucing carpet. It was fun, and strange. Lately we played at an open air festival under a summer storm. It really rained a lot and the stage was uncovered, but we’re glad that the audience kept stayin’ with us ’till the end of the live show. We were all wet to the bone, band and audience. Much appreciated!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
To realize that Oasis still exist ahahahah. (Do they?)
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Lately? Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, Human Impact, High Vis, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Amyl And The Sniffers, Frank Carter & Rattlesnakes, Clowns. That’s an average of what the whole of us is listening to.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“Do not to copy. Or at least do it with dignity!”
What are your guilty pleasures?
C’mooon… ahah!
Can you say something more about current music scene in Genoa?
Here in Genoa the scene is still alive and bands use to support each others. Nice to see very young guys coming to the venues too. Unfortunately all the places to keep concerts steady are disappearing, but we always find a way to make it. Underground scene in Genoa is one of the most active, metal, punk, hc… we got a lot of kick-ass bands!
In Italy in general it’s a disater. Many bands nowadays neither stop by to set a show here. Abroad we’re seen as people with no music culture, but it’s not true. The problem is from above; the government does not support any kind of “different art”, so who wants to raise situations of “counter-culture” often fails because of: money, burocracy, permissions. It’s probably not easy to understand if you don’t “breathe this air”, but it’s sadly like this.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We’ll keep you updated on all our social media. We’re trying to set some live shows around Europe, but it’s not easy… Cross your fingers for us!
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We’re actually writing brand new stuff. Our first album »Etiquette« is out on December 13th 2024 via Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records. Can’t wait, we’re so proud of it… In the meanwhile our plan is to record an EP during the next year to keep the tide high.
How can people best support your band?
The best way is clearly buying our records, physical or digital copies… but if we’re not talking about money, the best support people can give us is simple: feedbacks. It’s important to us to know what people really think about our music. It’s essential.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Always listen to music with open heart and thanks a lot for your support. Cheers!
