Doomed Confessionary: Obed Marsh (Catapult The Sun)

Catapult The Sun is a doom/sludge/drone metal band from Athens, Greece.
Catapult The Sun were hurled into existence in 2019, moving along a trajectory that makes the void reverberate with roaring bass frequencies, fuzzed cyclopean wall-of-sound low-tuned guitars and loud, planet-shattering drum noises, dragging earthbound and extraterrestrial listeners in the orbit of their massive droning pandemonium.
The band’s latest EP »Dark Sun Festivities« was just released on June 1st, 2024.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Catapult The Sun go back in 2019 when Alex and myself (Obed, guitar), coming from an epic doom act, Litany, which disbanded about the same time, decided to continue playing the music we love, a little different though this time, that is, instrumental, more sludge/drone, fuzzed out wall of sound oriented. After a search for a drummer Tolis joined us in 2020 and we took it from there. We have already released 3 eps, and recently, beginning of June 2024, we unleashed our 3rd one, Dark Sun Festivities.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Biggest challenge was and still is, finding time to run the band, rehearse and release music, considering we all have our daily routines, jobs, families etc. I think we’ve managed pretty well, considering Covid made it extremely difficult.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We are proud that people listen to and like our music, even these few ones. Proud we can connect with others through our music.
What was your biggest regret?
No regrets. We always take things as they come and act accordingly.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We’re pretty much “confined” to our rehearsal room, no concerts, we had our fair share of gigs since 2000 with our previous bands. If something good came up though, we would really give it a try.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
I couldn’t say. I mean nothing comes as a surprise for me…
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
I’d say music from the 90s and 80s, different genres from rock and heavy metal. Lately I’ve dusted off my grunge era CDs, mainly Screaming Trees and Soundgarden. Also I listen to a lot of Pantera, a lot of Solitude Aeturnus, which is my favorite doom metal band. And of course some classics from Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Don’t give a f@ck what others tell you, just do your thing.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Lol! I dont think I’d feel guilty for anything I would take pleasure in.

Can you say something more about the music scene in Athens?
Well, as most people know, Greece has a strong stoner/doom scene, with world-famous bands. There are also many more bands, not equally famed, but just as good, if not even better.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Right know one can only listen to our music via our Bandcamp page, or on YouTube. No plans for live gigs, lets see if that changes over the next months!
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We already rehearse on a couple of new songs, even before our latest EP, »Dark Sun Festivities« was out. Our goal is to have another EP out in 2025. Hope we make it!
How can people best support your band?
Listen to our music, follow us on Bandcamp and Facebook and drop a comment or a good word if they like it, and spread this word to their friends.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
A lot of gratitude for your support, we will continue to spread chaotic fuzzed out doomy riffs to the world!
