MNTN GOAT is a four-piece psychedelic stoner/doom/sludge metal band hailing from Lawton, Oklahoma.
Led by guitarist/vocalist Seth Andrus (Allusion, Norville), MNTN GOAT also features Chris Wright on guitar, Scott Rains on bass and Los Vissepo on drums.
MNTN GOAT have released a two-track EP »Children Of The Goat & Funeral Pyre« (December 2024) and a single »The Witch« (August 2025).
Can you please say a few words about your band?
MNTN GOAT is a 4-piece slice of Prairie Doom blues imbibed with the spirit (i.e. weirdness) of Southwest Oklahoma and with a love for boobs, fuzz and the sounds of Orange.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
I’d say the biggest challenge was replacing our former drummer when he had to quit to tend his farm full-time. We were fortunate to have Los Vissepo step in. He’s a Lawton legend and it just adds to our ability to structure our songs and improve our musicianship.
What can you be most proud of so far?
I’m most proud of how we’ve bonded and continue to improve with each jam together. This is the band I’ve been wanting to be a part of with over 30 years of playing in bands in one form or another.
What was your biggest regret?
I regret nothing, man. We live and learn and know this is for us more than anything.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Best concert? Performing outside our comfort zone in Norman with My Witch My Blood and Bugnog. Those are two biggies in the Oklahoma stoner/doom scene and for the crowd to react as positively as they did was a dream. Plus, we got an actual slam pit out of our ceaselessly slowing ending to our set closer.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Biggest surprise is how we’ve been accepted. Our brother bands and our fans here in Lawton have embraced what we do. We’re not typical. Lawton is known for a more “heavy metal” scene. Seth and I came together in the band Norville that featured 9 of us from bands like Lucavi, Chasing The Coyote, Astro Throne, and more. It was more of a Queens Of The Stone Age meets Crowbar vibe, if that’s a thing. I feel MNTN GOAT is a continuation of that vibe while also being distinctly different.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Always, Sleep, Kyuss, Sabbath, Clutch, Acid Bath, Electric Wizard, Queens Of The Stone Age, Mastodon, Neurosis and frankly, MNTN GOAT. I love being able to say I am part of my favorite band.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Don’t try to make it. Make music for yourself and if people dig it, that’s a bonus. I’ve been in some more abrasive band that kind of got off on being sonically off-putting at times. I’m also heavily influenced by Butthole Surfers so take that as it is.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Guilt is not in my vocabular, if I like something I like it. But I know Seth hates him so I’ll say Father John Misty.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Oklahoma?
I’m proud to say that Oklahoma has opened up to more than red dirt and power metal. There are a lot of interesting new sounds out there. When Norville was on Weedian’s »Trip to Oklahoma« compilation it really was cool to see such an array of kindred musicians here.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Railhead Saloon in Lawton for sure but we’re branching out and looking at some other places in Oklahoma City, hopefully Tulsa and looking at North Texas a little.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Writing more songs, working on the full-length album and spreading the fuzz wherever we may.
How can people best support your band?
Buy our merch, listen to our music and find us when we’re playing. We love new listeners. The internet is pretty cool because we have people reach out from all over the world now.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
In the words of Al Cisneros: “Follow the smoke toward the riff-filled land” and never stop. Also, all hail the GOAT!
