Doomed Nation

Sounds For The Lost Generation

Doomed Confessionary: Simeon & Niels (11RedEarth)

11RedEarth is an experimental/psychedelic doom metal band based in Bonn/Bad Münstereifel, Germany.

Formed in 2014, 11RedEarth consists of Simeon (voice, didgeridoo), Fabio (guitar), Niels (bass) and Jo (drums).

11RedEarth have two releases under the belt so far, self-titled debut album (2017) and »Volcano« EP (2023).

Can you say a few words about your band?
Simeon: The name 11RedEarth derives from a place where dark music magically erupts from the Eifel. The red hot lava consists of a complicated multi-national mixture of Hessen, Eifel, Italy and Holland. The music reflects an intricate mix of metal, doom and hardcore.
Unconventional sounds such as a Didgeridoo further add to the mix which the band describes as “experimental eifel noise”.
Whoever submits to this beast will feel the musical roots of all the 4 creatures!

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Niels: Finding the balance between preparing for playing live, writing and rehearsing new songs, and leading our humble daily lives

Simeon: We had to change our rehearsal room more than 3 times. But it still goes on.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Niels: Recording our EP »Volcano« in 2023 and publishing it on Spotify, YouTube and all other streaming platforms – as well as on a nice old-fashioned CD (demo).

Simeon: Played with a lot of great bands and in different locations around our town.

What was your biggest regret?
Niels: Failing to get a gorgeous Greek saxophone player to join our band.

Simeon: All right, and Niels who is it? 😉

Niels: Sabrina Saxophonopolous.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Simeon: Last year we played a support show in Bonn for Greek finest Godsleep. Their sound guy blessed us with a great sound too. In addition, an underground show at AZ in Aachen was an amazing blast too.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Niels: That German fans and bands in the metal scene are very committed: they can literally drive five hours to play a short set on stage.

Simeon: Our last show in 2024 was a mix of different genres…and what shall I say…the shit worked well too. Do not follow only one road, prepare yourself for new and be open minded.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Simeon: Black Sabbath is always in rotation… kings of Doom. And for me a lot of old school 90’s metal/hardcore crap.

Niels: I listened to Igorrr and the new Opeth CD recently.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Niels: Learn a real job.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Niels: [redacted].

Simeon: Eifeler Landbier, although there’s nothing to be ashamed of here.

Can you say something more about current music scene in Germany?
Niels: Without being modest, we think that Germany has one of the best live metal scenes in Europe.

Simeon: There is a big underground scene but not that many local DOOM bands at all.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Simeon: We are going to play some local shows (Bonn). For 7 years we organize our own little concert series named Volkano Fest at Kult 41 with support of other local bands in a similar genre.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Simeon: I think we are happy with it to create new songs even if it counts years. We are all sweet daddys but kids grow older, so there will be some more time for making music in the future. Maybe there will be some new output soon. And of course playing live… and hopefully nationwide someday.

Did you have any special plans for New Year’s Eve?
Niels: Well the year is young and the future is bright 😉

How can people best support your band?
Niels: By playing our album on speaker phone in the bus on Monday morning during rush hour.

Simeon: Yes, perfect way to send no smile to no one at all. And of course spread our songs on all platforms or just listen and buy stuff at 11redearth.bandcamp.com or at one of our shows!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Simeon: Do not run… move slow as we do 😉

Niels: What is this, that stands before me?
