Old Rock n’ Roll Spirits raised by the power of the Fuzz!

Shrew is a heavy psych/fuzz rock band from Portland, Oregon. Influenced by giants such as Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and Led Zeppelin as well as cult classics like Toad, Budgie, and Dust, the band’s music opens a portal to the past to bring their heavy grooves and psychedelic improvisations to the future.

The story began when Max Siegfried, Selina Cleary and Shea Gegan of Greenseeker collaborated with vocalist Rosie Peterson of Slow Goat on a live performance of Black Sabbath’s »Snowblind« in 2022. Following this, the members’ mutual love for classic 70s rock n’ roll was revealed. After three successful releases as Greenseeker (including a 2LP released on Stonefly Records and a split on Electric Valley Records), the trio decided to partner up with Rosie full-time in Shrew.

The band has just finished recording their debut full-length, self-titled album with renowned engineer Justin Phelps at Portland’s legendary Hallowed Halls studio. In their short tenure as a live band, Shrew has shared stages with Belzebong, Gnome, Messa, Spirit Mother and Greenbeard. In their other projects, members have also played with Mars Red Sky, Weedeater, Mos Generator, Hippie Death Cult, The Well, Deathchant, Tigers On Opium, Kadabra, Fever Dog, and many more. Following the release of their record, the band plans to hit the road to bring their music to old friends and new fans alike.

Shrew’s debut album gets into the nitty gritty of life against a familiar backdrop of 70s-inspired rock n’ roll.

Shrew’s self-titled album was recorded and produced by Justin Phelps at the Hallowed Halls studio between October 2023 and July 2024. The album was mastered by Alan Douches in August 2024.

“The songs on the album explore themes of escapism caused by struggles with mental health and toxic relationships. The songs explore the desire to run away from a hard-to-face reality by overworking, partying, or fantasizing about fairy tale endings – but also how in the end, we can triumph over these feelings and situations.” — Selina Cleary

The first kick:

»Spiral« is the first song chosen by the band to open the path until the album release on next year.

“»Spiral« is the first song we wrote as a band. I wanted to explore writing about something grounded in reality, and relatable for people listening to the song.

»Spiral« is about how anxiety affects the relationships around us. Living with anxiety feels like your life is spiraling out of control. On the inside you may feel like a storm is brewing in your head, constantly screaming at you. On the outside, you may appear cold, disengaged and forgetful. It can sometimes be easier to convince yourself to give up instead of dragging your loved ones into that cycle with you.” — Selina Cleary

»Spiral« will be released on all major platforms this Saturday, October 26th

Shrew’s album is coming out in digital and vinyl format next year via Glory or Death Records. Stay tuned for more news!
