Tampere, Finland based death/sludge metal band Black Royal premiere a music video for the second single »Drown The Seaweed« taken from their forthcoming album, »Abyssian«, set to release on October 30th, 2026 via M-Theory Audio.

Formed in Nordic territory, Black Royal concoct Scandinavian death metal with blackened sludge – imagine a fistfight between Crowbar and Entombed, with Behemoth and Mastodon awaiting to jump in the ring for round two. The Finnish act unveiled »Earthbound« via M-Theory Audio several years ago, yet have returned to continue their onslaught of mythological heavy music on the conceptual new single »Drown The Seaweed«.

»Drown The Seaweed« was born from a vision of creating something ethereal and weightless, a sonic landscape that drifts like morning mist across a still summer lake. The song opens with a sense of calm and wonder, gradually drawing the listener deeper beneath the surface. As it unfolds, the powerful C-section and expressive solos lead into darker, more immersive waters, revealing hidden depths and emotional intensity.

The result is a beautifully melancholic journey that blends a rich atmosphere with a memorable, hook-driven chorus that stays with the listener long after the final note has faded.

Lyrically, the song explores humanity’s ancient fascination with and fear of the water. For centuries, the vast unknown beneath the surface has inspired myths, legends, and uneasy respect. The water’s surface acts as a boundary between worlds, separating human reality from mysterious realms beyond reach and understanding.

The sea can be both breathtakingly beautiful and mercilessly unforgiving. Storms and calm waters alike may conceal danger, and no one can ever be certain what lies hidden in the depths below. Throughout folklore, water spirits and mystical water bearers possessed powers that demanded reverence. Those who approached them with arrogance or underestimated their force often faced a cruel and irreversible fate.
