French trio Hifiklub’s collab audio-visual oeuvre with the Montreal animator James Kerr (Scorpion Dagger) – titled »ScorpKlub I & II Original Soundtracks« – is slated for vinyl and digital release on 27 May 2022 via Electric Valley Records. The double-sided record features Iggor Cavalera (MixHell, Cavalera Conspiracy, Pet Brick, co-founder of Sepultura) and Alain Johannes (Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Eleven).
The inspiration for the ScorpKlub project was to create unique works using the remarkable collection of Toulon Art Museum as a palette through a multidisciplinary exchange of sound and moving images. Hifiklub responded in music to the digital collages created by Kerr, who mischievously altered twenty artworks ranging from the 15th to the beginning of the 20th century, from the museum’s permanent collection.
The work of assembling the visuals took place in James Kerr’s studio in Montreal, whereas the musical components of the project were created in two stages:
• The first recording session took place at the end of January 2021 at Coxinhell studio in Saint Aygulf, with Iggor Cavalera recording remotely. This session resulted in ten original compositions, to which Kerr animated his videos.
• The second stage of Hifiklub took place in Toulon between 02 to 03 July 2021 during the Murex Festival, with the remote participation of Alain Johannes. This session of sound research and recording was done in front of a live audience, to which the music was created in response to ten premade animations created by Kerr.
»ScorpKlub I & II« will be broadcast in 2022 on the internet in the form of two seasons: one with Iggor Cavalera (May) + one with Alain Johannes (June).

BIOGRAPHIES:
Hifiklub
Collaboration is an essential ingredient to this open trio’s creative approach, forming a recurring theme in Hifiklub’s extensive discography and filmography. Based in Toulon, the hyperactive experimental rock band offer a diverse, ever-evolving catalog that now boasts over 150 artist collaborations since they started in 2006. Over the years, they have formed as many fruitful artistic friendships allowing them to explore the endless possibilities of expression combining sound, image, and text.
James Kerr
James is one of the most particular digital artists of our time. He started an original and pioneering project, named Scorpion Dagger.
The project was initially conceived without a specific goal, creating and publishing simply GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) every day for a year.
He began his career in this field with the aim of learning to animate, but almost immediately he realized that creating GIFs represented for him a natural evolution of his art.
The style of James is extremely unique and recognizable.
Irreverent and highly humorous, this digital artist is inspired by the great Renaissance paintings, putting the Renaissance subjects in weird situations.
The idea was born by imagining what would have been the daily lives of the protagonists of the Renaissance paintings today, giving them a new life that takes place outside the museum where they usually are.
The animation process used by James is quite simple, very similar to the traditional style of animation. His GIF are all made in Photoshop where in each frame every detail is moved slightly.
James has extended the world of GIF bringing it to a new level. In his Artbook, Do you like relaxing? you can see his most famous GIFs.
The Artbook can be seen in the traditional way, or using devices where static images come to life through the screen, turning it into an AR-enhanced book.

Iggor Cavalera
Iggor Cavalera is best known as the drummer of Brazilian super-group Sepultura. Having toured heavily around the globe, winning several “Best Drummer” accolades, and selling over 10 million records, Iggor has an incredible ability to project emotion and evoke thought through his percussive talents. And he has displayed this phenomenal ability in many forms through bands such as Sepultura, Cavalera Conspiracy, Mixhell, Petbrick, and Soulwax.
What many don’t know is that Iggor Cavalera is a transgenerational music researcher. His passion for new, foreign, uncommon obscure sounds, summed with his knowledge of classic rock, metal, experimental and ephemeral music, has led him to build narratives through sets of music explorations to share with his audience.
Alain Johannes
The list of musicians that Alain Johannes has worked with reads like an encyclopedia of California rock history. In high school he was in bands with Flea, Hillel Slovak, Jack Irons and Anthony Kiedis, all of whom would form the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Later Alain formed Eleven with Natasha Shneider and Jack Irons. They toured with Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, and for several years recorded and toured with Queens Of The Stone Age.
As a writer, producer and engineer, Alain has worked with Chris Cornell, No Doubt, Mark Lanegan,
Jimmy Eat World, Queens Of The Stone Age, Brody Dalle and Arctic Monkeys.
Alain has been a touring member of PJ Harvey’s band, as well as Them Crooked Vultures which featured Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters, Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age, and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin.
As a composer, Alain has written music for films such as »Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis« and for video games such as Tom Clancy’s »Ghost Recon Wildlands«.
Alain was part of the Sound City Players which performed in connection with the documentary, »Sound City«. Alain co-wrote and performed »A Trick With No Sleeve« with Dave Grohl and Josh Homme for the movie and the soundtrack.
