»Nothing« is the striking new video from KARITI. Now playing at Decibel Magazine, the moving new hymn comes by way of KARITI’s »Still Life« full-length, released earlier this month through Lay Bare Recordings.

KARITI (карити) – meaning “to mourn the dead” in church Slavonic – is the emotional and creative outlet of Ekaterina, a Russian-born poet and songwriter based in Italy.

Comments Ekaterina on the video, “»Nothing« was the first poem of this last cycle and one of the first songs I completed for »Still Life«. We traveled to Helsinki to shoot the video with my dear Laura Sans, the visionary video maker I often work with. I was drawn to that location because of my deep connection to the gloom and the isolation of Finland, where I spent a transformative period in my twenties. Later Laura introduced me to the digital artist Ashley Tofu, who gracefully reinforced the contrast I had been longing for in this song and its visual representation. Sharing this video last feels like completing the cycle and I am ready for whatever comes next.”

Adds Decibel Magazine, “Though the track we’re featuring, »Nothing«, is quite somber and melancholy, there is a thread of raw guitar tension that adds darkness to it. Is it heavy, is it metal? No, but the extreme spirit lurks in the bleak soul of »Nothing«, as exemplified by the accompanying black and white video shot in snowy Finland.”

»Still Life« was recorded by Lorenzo Della Rovere in Corno di Rosazzo, Italy, produced and mixed by Della Rovere and Ekaterina, mastered by John “Spud” Murphy in Dublin, Ireland, and includes additional guitar/noise/drone machine by Marco Matta. The record comes swathed in the cover art image of Ashley Tofu and Laura Sans Gassò, with layout, lettering, and design by Strxart.

»Still Life« is available on CD, LP, and digital formats. Find orders at Lay Bare Recordings HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

Later this month, KARITI will begin touring in support of »Still Life« throughout Europe including many cities and countries she’s never before played. See all confirmed dates below. For booking inquiries, contact ma***************@***il.com.

KARITI’s 2020 debut »Covered Mirrors«, released by the cult Italian label Aural Music (Negură Bunget, Imperial Triumphant, Messa), represented a “cathartic peregrination through bereavement.” KARITI’s second offering, Dheghom, released in February 2024 by the forward-thinking Dutch label Lay Bare Recordings (Frayle, Thief, Yawning Man), saw a development in sound, songwriting, and instrumentation: apart from electric guitars, Ekaterina performed various synthesizers and the analogue piano.

By September 2023, a self-titled, industrial/trip-hop/shoegaze EP was released under the moniker Néant – a collaboration between KARITI and Void of the anonymous Parisian industrial sludge collective Non Serviam. According to Cvlt Nation, “If Portishead, Spirit Possession, The Bug, and The Body decided to create music together, the outcome just might sound like this band.” KARITI is frequently asked to compose vocal lines (and often lyrics) and to be a guest singer for extreme death/black metal bands, including 2024 releases by Bedsore (20 Buck Spin) and Limbes.

“Through contrasting musical tones, textures, and reflective lyrics, singer-songwriter KARITI builds a bleak and empathetic world on »Still Life«.” – Everything Is Noise

“It’s a chamber of eclectic sounds and dark, haunting undertones that genuinely need your full attention. This isn’t an album to put on in the background. This is an album to be felt and experienced in the moment, so be ready to be present when you listen to »Still Life«.” – Ghost Cult
