Polish heavy psych/stoner rock trio 1965 premiere new single »Flames Get Higher«; new EP »Paranoid Betazoid« out November 29th!

Warsaw, Poland based heavy psych/stoner rock trio 1965 premiere the second single »Flames Get Higher« taken from their upcoming new EP, »Paranoid Betazoid«, set to release on November 29th, 2024.

On the new EP by 1965, the Warsaw trio went for maximum eclecticism. Sabbath-like riffs are mixed with synths, catchy Monster Magnet-style choruses are intertwined with instrumental parts reminiscent of bands such as Yes or Rush. And this is just the tip of the iceberg of surprises hidden behind the trippy cover art, which Jack Kirby himself would not be ashamed of.

The EP »Paranoid Betazoid« contains four compositions recorded in early 2024 at Mustache Ministry Studio under the supervision of Marcin Klimczak. The first single promoting the mini-album, entitled »Night Is The Enemy«, was released on October 4. The EP is scheduled to premiere on November 29, 2024.

On the new mini-album, the band remains in the same futuristic, dystopian universe as on their last album – the 2022 album »Panther«. However, the atmosphere of »Paranoid Betazoid« is much more psychedelic, the music more experimental, and the compositions more elaborate.

The songs on the new EP are definitely darker than on the band’s two previous albums. “The subject matter of the lyrics revolves around the state of our minds and the state of our planet in the 2020s,” says 1965 vocalist and guitarist Michał Rogalski – “so naturally they are rather pessimistic.”

“This is the most organic thing we have recorded so far,” says the band’s drummer Tomasz Rudnicki – “unlike the first two albums, where Michał brought songs and the band polished them together, »Paranoid Betazoid« is the result of collective jamming and composing from the very beginning.”

“This EP was a great opportunity for me to make full use of my compositional skills,” says 1965 bassist Marco Caponi. “I brought a bit more of my mathematical approach to music to “Paranoid Betazoid,” which I think fits the atmosphere of this EP very well.”

“I think a good word to sum up the EP is “intense”,” says Rudnicki. “Each of us goes all out on our instruments to such an extent that, to be honest, it was hard to mix the excess noise at times,” laughs 1965 drummer. “But Haldor Grunberg rose to the occasion and made »Paranoid Betazoid« sound really good.”

The cover design was created by Konrad Kęska. “We’ve known Konrad for a long time and we knew we’d be on the same page when it came to the visual side of this EP,” says Rogalski. “But what he prepared exceeded our wildest expectations. The design he put together really captures every idea in the songs and is just as weird, diverse and chaotic as the music.”
