04. Farewell

The band commented: “December 28, 2025 marks one hundred years since the suicide of the poet Serghei Esenin. On that same day, In Ruins will release »I Do Not Regret And I Do Not Shed Tears«, the first track unveiled from their forthcoming album – an album constructed around four poems written by Esenin.

This release is neither a tribute nor an attempt to romanticise death. It is a pause. A sustained gaze into the moment when a person no longer experiences the joy of living, only its fatigue.

The lyrics address transience: the erosion of the body and of desire, the loss of youth, and the acceptance that everything which blooms is bound to wither. »I Do Not Regret And I Do Not Shed Tears« is not a declaration of bravery, but of total emptiness – the point at which regret itself dissolves.

Esenin’s suicide appears here not as a dramatic gesture, but as a consequence – the logical conclusion of a parting that began long before.

Releasing the song on this date is an act of silent remembrance, not of explanation.

We are all to perish.”

In Ruins is a doom metal band formed in 2021 in Timișoara (Romania). The original lineup consisted of Urmuz on vocals, Putrid on guitar and bass, and St. Oliver on drums. The band’s debut release, the five-track EP »Ruthless Portrait«, was issued in the spring of 2022. Musically rooted in doom/death metal, the EP is marked by lyrics that revolve around introspection and meditations on death.

The band’s first full-length album, »We Are All To Perish«, features Urmuz (vocals, guitars, bass) and St. Oliver (drums) and represents a clear move toward funeral doom metal. The concept for the album emerged in 2024, when St. Oliver discovered the work of Russian poet Serghei Eesenin. After careful selection, four of Esenin’s poems were chosen and served as the primary source of inspiration for Urmuz’s compositions.

Spanning more than forty minutes, the album guides the listener through a dense landscape of emotions and contemplations focused on mortality and the inevitability of death. To reinforce this atmosphere visually, the CD cover artwork depicts Serghei Esenin after his suicide, referencing the poet’s final act of writing a poem in his own blood.
