Groningen, Netherlands based death/doom metal veterans Sad Whisperings are back with a brand new full-length album, »The Hermit«, which was just released on January 19th, 2026 via Vidar Records.

With »The Hermit«, the band returns to a place where melancholy and weight converge. Listeners familiar with the legacy of Sad Whisperings will recognize the emotional DNA: this album continues the path once carved by »Sensitive To Autumn«, yet reshapes it into something darker and more introspective. Riff-driven melodic death/doom forms the backbone, layered with gothic shadows and somber atmospheres. Melancholic leads drift in and out, like fading memories, guiding the listener through a landscape of sorrow, restraint, and quiet intensity. »The Hermit« is an inward journey – solitary, heavy, and deeply emotive.

Founded early nineties as Desecrate, the band played death metal with some doom influences. After the change in musical direction to atmospheric doom/death metal, heavily influenced by the greats like My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost, the name was changed to the more suiting Sad Whisperings. The full length »Sensitive To Autumn« was recorded in 1993. After the recording of promo’s in 1995 and 1998, the band went on hiatus.
The interest from VIC Records in 2022 in re-issueing »Sensitive To Autumn« led to the reformation of the band. A year later »Return To Autumn« was released by VIC Records, comprising the ’95 and ’98 promo recordings. The band has recorded 11 new songs at Soundlodge recording facilities in Germany late 2024. The EP »Strategy Of Tension« is released by Vidar Records on October 4th, 2025, followed by a full-length album »The Hermit« on January 19th, 2026. The band signed for two albums with Vidar Records.
In the mean time shows were done with Pestilence, Brain Casket, Massive Assault, Written In Blood, Wounded, DeadHead, Escarnium, Disquiet, Carnivore AD.
An album release show is planned with Cryptosis on February 14th, 2026 at Vera in Groningen, Netherlands. And another show with Benediction and Mercyless on May 15th, 2026 at Gulfhaus in Vechta, Germany.
