Scottish doom metal trio Brethren return with new single and music video »Adrift«

Glasgow, UK based doom metal trio Brethren return with new single and music video »Adrift«, released on November 6th, 2025.
»Adrift« is streaming now on Spotify and other digital platforms!
Formed in Glasgow in 2017 out of a shared appreciation of slow, heavy riffs, Brethren took shape around Stephen, Philip, and original drummer Emma Kelly. Following a hiatus, the band reformed with Fraser Grieve behind the kit with re-newed determination and drive.
Raw, exposed, heavy, and honest; Brethren is the coming together and creative expression of three individuals who’ve been involved in the heavy music scene for the last 25 years.
Foreboding doom with a fragile, melodic edge, Brethren mix heaviness with an anguished outpouring of human existence. Inspired by ‘weighty’ and unsettling music across diverse genres, Brethren create a unique Glaswegian sound: Gloom.
Brethren draws from the wells of doom, metal and post-rock, blending influences to create distinct compositions and sounds. Sonic touchstones are founding fathers Black Sabbath and long-standing forebears Crowbar, Melvins and Paradise Lost, mixed with the aesthetic achieved by Joy Division, Massive Attack and Portishead.

The sound is confronting, with riffs that grind through cold landscapes like a sonic weather front.
In Brethren’s world, unease is honesty. Heavy as fuck… except when they’re not.
»Adrift« confronts the inevitability of loss and the death of certainty.
Brethren are Philip Donnelly (bass/vocals) , Stephen Plunkett (guitar/vocals) and Fraser Grieve (drums).
