“The 1990s. We were closer to each other with everybody on the scene, all was friendlier, bands helped each other, the immense amount of fanzines supported everybody as much as possible, fans were hungry for every new record, every new piece of information, many people attended concerts… It was great, we were all 25 years younger…
At the turn of the millennium, Thalarion were one of the fundamental bands of the Slovak metal underground. Not only because of the contract abroad, but mainly because of the quality of their music. As a fan of Theatre Of Tragedy, The Gathering, Dreams Of Sanity or even the Slovak Galadriel, I couldn’t miss also Thalarion. Their music enchanted me. »Tales Of The Woods… Thus Was Written« (1998) already sounded amazing, but the third album »Four Elements Mysterium« is my favourite of all Thalarion recordings. Plenty of catchy riffs blending doom metal with melodic death metal, charming vocals, and especially the “beauty and the beast” approach, popular at that time, offering atmospheric heaviness, gloom… this is just a part of what the original nine-track album has been offering for listening for a quarter of a century.

This anniversary prompted me to re-release »Four Elements Mysterium« on my label Pařát Productions, while not killing two birds with one stone. That explains why the digipak edition was released in August, while the LP version didn’t come out until November. Unlike the digipak reissue, the time limit for one side of an LP is unforgiving, so this first vinyl edition of the album does not include the bonus song »Awakening (A Retirement Of My Dreams)« from the original Japanese CD version, released in 2000.
And like with the digipak reissue, you can’t miss the altered front cover of the LP. The original version, which appeared without the band’s logo and album title, was simply asking to be completed. And it stands out even more on the larger format of the LP.
The music that Thalarion presented in 1999 (album recording) and 2000 (album release) can be perceived as old school, which I don’t see anything wrong with, quite the contrary. In all its aspects, the album fits into the wonderful time of the turn of the millennium that we remember so fondly.” — Petr Herdron, September 2025
