Bandwagoning exemplifies what Coilguns does best: an unpredictable yet cohesive blend of styles from Post Hardcore to Noise Rock, pushing boundaries while honing their unique sound with its chant-like refrains, verses full of rapid-fire spoken-word lyrics and some of the fastest sections the band has ever written. A track that should appeal to fans of Refused, At The Drive-In, Converge, Chat Pile and Birds In Row.
About »Bandwagoning«:
Bandwagoning holds a special placein the recording process, as it was the first to be completed during their sessions at Ocean Sound Studio in Norway. The final version of the track is one of the initial takes, capturing a rare moment of effortless magic. In fact, at the end of therecording, producer Scott Evans can be heard exclaiming, “Fuck Yeah!” through thetalk back, highlighting the raw energy of the session.

Though the song’s pace leans more towards mid-tempo, »Bandwagoning« packs insome of the fastest sections the band has ever written, at times approaching athrash metal vibe. With its chant-like refrains, and verses full of rapid-fire spoken-word lyrics, the track exemplifies what Coilguns does best—an unpredictable yetcohesive blend of styles, pushing boundaries while honing their unique sound.
As singer Louis Jucker says:”This is our noisy way to tell how little and lonely we sometimes feel infront of the big bad ones, and our determination not to surrender, tocherish our freakiness, make it a strength.”

About the new album »Odd Love«:
“»Odd Love« is a way to summarize our relationship with music in itself, theoverall music business and our band life. We’re amazed how long this band has lasted so far and the importance it has taken in our life, knowing how randomly it started. Our music has always been a sane yet intense way to process all the light and deep things we were going through in our personal lives. Oddness is our nomality and love is our motor to achieve it. It took us a long time to fit somewhere in a scene, since we never believed and cared so much about scenes. Our drive was to get on stage and tore it down, and we found out pretty quickly that it would be hard to turn this energy into a business plan. Through the years we tried to cherish this strangeness while adapting to this gigantic chaos that is music today. This has for instance seen us start our own label and create most of our tools from scratch. We’ve obviously learned a lot together, and this whole process has taught us to love ourselves for what we are: a noisy odd band from a tidy watchmaking city.”
Much of »Odd Love« was initially written by guitarist and founder Jona Nido alone at home during the first two months of the Spring 2020 Covid lockdown. “The starting point for the process of the new record was to go back to where Coilguns actually started, which was Jona writing songs and asking us to arrange them with him.” Jucker said. Nido wrote and prepared 14 demos to show Hess, Jucker and Galland. They worked on the songs together but intentionally let the collection sit for weeks or even months afterward, before revisiting some songs whose meaning had changed for them. “It made us go into so much detail that we’ve never had the time to go into,” Nido said. “We had decided to break all patterns. We knew that we were at the end of a certain era.”

Breaking down – and breaking out of – their usual process provided the musicians with challenges that grew into great rewards. They recorded a first version of the album at their home studio, before travelling to the legendary Norwegian studio Ocean Sound, where Arcade Fire, Cult Of Luna and others have also recorded, and flew American producer Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Thrice, Ghoul) across the ocean to free them from any technical duties and benefit from the man incredible inputs and experience when it comes to get the best out of “a band in a room”. These three weeks were a life changing experience for both parties. Coilguns did much of the artistic production on »Odd Love« themselves, but also recruited Grammy-nominated producers Tom Dalgety (The Pixies, Ghost, Royal Blood) and Robin Schmidt (Liam Gallagher, The Gaslight Anthem) to mix and master the album.
»Odd Love« was born…
About Coilguns:
Initially coming from the DIY hardcore scene, Coilguns, from La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, have since then crafted their very own blend of punk and extatic noise-rock. The history of the band is deeply bound to the development of guitarist Jona Nido’s own label – Humus Records – that now gathers up to 150 releases from Swiss artists of all sonic horizons. Though their last two albums were 100% self-produced, engineered and mixed by the band members, Coilguns drove in the summer of 2022 to end-of-the-world’s Oceansound Recordings in Norway with producer Scott Evans to track their 4th studio album which was then mixed by grammy nominated producer Tom Dalgety. The band is known for its raw, uncompromising and euphoric live performances, proudly serving the dancing freaks and the crowd-surfing weirdos.
