Sorrowful Land is a one-man doom metal project formed in 2014 in Kharkiv (Ukraine). The mastermind behind the project is Max Molodtsov, also the leader of such Ukrainian metal bands as: Edenian, Blessdivine, Mistyfica, Resolution.

The music combines elements from both doom and death metal genres, with a gentle touch of early gothic-metal vibes. Bouncing on the edge of crushing guitar riffs and haunting melodies, Sorrowful Land’s compositions combine all of the elements that can contribute to the gloomy and melancholic atmosphere.

And on the top – variety of vocal performances, one can hear soaring growls, piercing screams and intimate whispers as well as clean vocals. The compositions are slow to mid-tempo, yet dynamic, interesting and diverse.

»Hiraeth« is the 4th full-length album of Ukrainian doom-metal one-man band. Led by multi-instrumentalist and mastermind behind the project – Max Molodtsov, Sorrowful Land has been bringing doomy passages since 2014.

The new effort offers deep sounding melancholic yet dark tunes filled with tasty riffs, catchy melodies, roaring bass and thunderous drums. “Hiraeth” lyrics’ themes are leaning towards philosophical approach to thoughts and feelings that are spinning in one’s mind. What will you do when you realise that you can’t get back in time to fix the damage you’ve done? Would you choose to live a life as a slave or fight fiercefully against all odds? Will the sorrow fill your soul and heart instantly when you’re not home anymore? Do you feel the flow of time as it’s passing by? Are you a silent observer of tragic moments? Does your faith in Heavenly Grace still fulfill you?

You’ll find all of the answers hidden in these seven compositions. It will be quite a journey through the darker and metaphorical paths indeed.

So, let’s see what is wrapped under cover? Seven epic songs that are long enough to fill almost an hour of your existence with the right mood. Low-tuned guitar riffs intertwined with enchanting melodies, brutal growling and desperate screaming are calmed down by sound of mellow clean vocals and soft whispers, delicate piano fills, solid bass lines and punchy drum parts – you better prepare your ears! One can hear the influence of oldschool gothic-doom bands from 90s combined with more modern sound. For the fans of Paradise Lost, Draconian, Doom:VS, Swallow The Sun, Saturnus.
