Uruguayan alternative metal band Regina announces their debut album »Liminal Space«; out on September 12th!

Montevideo, Uruguay based dark and ethereal alternative metal band Regina has announced their debut album, entitled »Liminal Space«, which will be released on September 12th, 2025.

Says the band: “We are incredibly excited to present »Liminal Space«, our debut album. It is a journey through the edges of who we were and who we are. A testament to persistence and to being reborn on the threshold – when everything feels uncertain, yet something new begins to take shape.”

Regina presents »Liminal Space«: inhabiting the thresholds of transformation.

At the edges of the known and the unknown lies »Liminal Space«, the debut album by alternative rock and metal band Regina. Conceived in the isolation of 2020 and slowly brought to life over five years, this record bursts forth, taking shape in the void. Born amidst chaos and creation, dying like an unattainable dream, only to be reborn again and again in an inevitable metamorphosis. This is »Liminal Space«.

It is a collection of twelve songs bearing the traces of the irreversible transformations that shaped this project, giving it countless forms. Yet none of these forms could hold their shape: »Liminal Space« is that threshold, that transition between one thing and another. It is not what was, nor what will be; it is time suspended in transformation. It is the space where nothing is set, and anything can begin – or end.

Regina was formed in Montevideo, Uruguay, fusing cultural roots with international influences to build a unique sonic language that aims to take Uruguayan music beyond borders. The album’s story began with Sofia May on vocals and keys, Agustin Sogliano on bass, Soledad García on guitar, and Nicolas Martin on drums. However, the pandemic turned their personal lives upside down, pushing the album to the background.

In 2022, Soledad left the project to pursue other personal interests, but with Valeria Sarro joining on guitar, the band found renewed energy and returned to what had seemed like a distant dream. By 2024, Regina began recording the album, and after laying down the drum tracks, Nicolas moved to Alberta, Canada. The rest of the band completed their recordings in various studios across Montevideo. Later that year, the material traveled to Alberta to be mixed and mastered by James Seabrook at Two Bodies of Water Productions.

Amid these stages and transitions, »Liminal Space« was awarded funding by the Fondo Concursable para la Cultura (FCC) of the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture, allowing the band to finally complete the project.

To bring »Liminal Space« to the live stage, Ignacio Hourcade joined on drums, having also recorded percussion on some of the tracks. Ahead of the album release, Regina has performed at various venues and festivals in Montevideo, including Wacken Metal Battle Uruguay, Feminoise Festival, and Festival del Solsticio, among others.

»Liminal Space«, Regina’s debut album, will be released on all digital platforms on September 12. An invitation to inhabit uncertainty and find oneself in transformation.
