SUMO, hailing from Miami, FL, are a three-piece instrumental space rock band, with each member embodying a vital element in the spark, energy, and atmosphere needed to ignite their sound. Established in 2013, SUMO have released 2 full-length records, along with 3 ambient singles (the ATMOS series), independently on their own Rikishi Records. The band can be summed up by two simple words: Pretty. Heavy.
On the heels of SUMO’s third full-length release, »III« (3/three), released on Dec. 13 and recorded at Sound Artillery Studios with Jonathan Nuñez (Torche), the trio have added another piece of divine, crushing art to their body of work with the new music video for track »Apophis«.
Featuring dancer Hattie Mae Williams, in proper SUMO form »Apophis« is surreal and embedded in mystery, leaving the interplay of riffs, light, and dance open to interpretation but undeniably SUMO.

SUMO in the press:
“SUMO as a sum of its parts is forever locked in the turbulent cycle of creation and destruction; it is ethereal beauty and desolate horror. Infinitely literary and cinematic. Intelligent and brash… Composed and ordered so as to allow improvisation and anarchic wail.” – excerpt from Abel Folgar (local music journalist)
“SUMO »III« is a masterpiece. It’s the musical equivalent of going from VHS tape to a 4K High Dynamic Range OLED TV. Countless bands have tried this kind of spacey, heavy psych instrumental stuff…They come from outside the Stoner/Doom scene and avoid the tropes and references that can bog it down: they literally bring a new dimension to what is possible. Mind blown!” – Scott Spiers (Doom Charts, Clean And Sober Stoner, Monster Riff)
SUMO is:
Amado Ventura – Bass
Hector Mojena – Drums
Chris Salazar – Guitar
