Oleg Chaykin comments: “Second single »Candle« from my debut EP »Ember«.

Each track on »Ember« relates to a real object or surroundings from my childhood, things that shaped me and still keep me rooted.

»Candle«, inspired by Mastodon’s low-tuned riffs and especially piercing guitar solos of recently passed away Brent Hinds (RIP), is about rebirth in many senses. This Zhar-Ptitsa (the Russian Firebird) from my childhood drawing on a cutting board embodies revival and a timeless connection with oneself, with lyrics both written and sung in Russian.”

Chaykin Oleg is a self-titled metal project from the UK. Oleg spent his earlier years playing chaotic hardcore in Russia before moving to London to continue his music journey at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP). After settling in London, he began working on his solo project, which was mixed and mastered by Sanford Parker, known for his work with sludgy, post-metal bands such as YOB, EyeHateGod or death metal Darkthrone.

His debut EP, »Ember«, delivers a raw blend of sludgy metal, stoner, and doomish chaotic hardcore, driven by dynamic contrasts, piercing solos, and an idiosyncratic vocal delivery that shifts between quiet tension and emotional strain.

Each track on »Ember« is inspired by a real object from the landscape that shaped him, grounding symbols that still carry him forward and are featured on the singles’ covers: The River, Firebird, Echo of War, Chair, and Binoculars. The first single, »Waters«, is out. For those lost in the rat race chasing neon ghosts through burnout and noise, it offers a reality check without losing your face.
