For nearly twenty years Avignon’s Angellore have ensorcelled and delighted fans and critics alike with their unique blend of gothic doom, folkloric influence, drama, storytelling and grand emotion; weaving traditional instruments into the rich layers of sound that have characterised remarkable, enthralling albums like 2012s »Errances« and 2020s acclaimed »Rien Ne Devait Mourir«, described by Angry Metal Guy as painting “a despairingly beautiful picture for the listener to enjoy”. And now it is time for a new chapter in Angellore’s epic tale, an album that has been slowly developing in the darkness for the best part of ten, long years – their most profoundly affecting creation to date – »Nocturnes«…
Written over years and recorded in multiple locations across Europe, »Nocturnes« birth has been far from easy. However, all the trials and tribulations of its creation have added to the poignancy and power of its final splendour. Expertly engineered and meticulously mixed by Déhà (Inborn Suffering, Wolvennest, Cult Of Erinyes) and intuitively mastered by Markus Skroch (October Falls, Sig:Ar:Tyr, The Chasm), »Nocturnes«’ full potential has been realised; its many magical elements allowed to breathe, its visionary songs allowed to fly. Swathed in the evocative artwork of the band’s own Florent “Celin” Castellani, Angellore’s greatest work so far in their storied career will be released by Ardua Music on May 15th. Nocturnes will capture the hearts of all those who give themselves over to its twilight enchantment.
Singer and keyboardist Walran comments: “It has been a long journey and quite an ordeal at times, but »Nocturnes« is finally ready to emerge from the shadows. We are truly excited to share these new pieces with you. It is always difficult to speak objectively about one’s own work, yet those who have wandered with Angellore before should feel like being home again – melodic and symphonic doom/death infused with gothic elements, enriched by touches of folk and black metal.”

The seed of Angellore was sown in 2007 in Avignon (France), when Rosarius & Walran met for the first time. Both quickly realized that they were carried by the same desire to express their deepest emotions through the most melancholic and beautiful (doom) music. Rosarius’ love of gothic music, and Walran’s personal folk touch would make their way into the majestic and sorrowful music that would become Angellore.
Later joined by Ronnie on drums, their first album »Errances« (2012) gathered hugely enthusiastic reviews. Followed by »La Litanie des Cendres« (2015), the introduction of Lucia (female vocals) and Celin on bass led to their latest to date »Rien Ne Devait Mourir« (2020). Angellore started recording demos for »Nocturnes« back in 2021 and completed the album earlier this year marking the band’s first collaboration with Belgian producer and mixing engineer Déhà ensuring that »Nocturnes« stands as the best-sounding album in their discography to date.
Walran on rejoining Ardua Music: “Back in 2020, Ardua Music (then known as The Vinyl Division) made one of our dreams come true by releasing a double-LP edition (complete with an extensive booklet!) of our third album, »Rien Ne Devait Mourir«. Our collaboration proved remarkably rewarding, both on a professional and a personal level. This is why we are delighted to open a new chapter of our career with Ardua Music. We raise a glass of red wine – what else, for a French band devoted to sorrowful music? – to what we hope will be a long and fruitful partnership. We know it’s been a while since our last album, and we’re excited to share our new songs with you all.”
