Theya began in 2018 when longtime friends Michael Scanland and Tuula Paivio-Ala both found themselves between bands. Having always wanted to work together, Theya was born. Adding drummer Mic Rawls, whose fondness for eclectic beats and exotic percussion, helped create an original sound. Samantha Grove joined the fray on vocals, her four-octave vocal range the love child of Ronnie James Dio and Etta James.
Theya’s unique sound emerged combining all of their influences as rabid music fans – the new wave of British metal, thrash, doom, raucous MC5 style rock and roll, and classic psych.

Theya delivers a refreshing point of view as song writers in the heavy metal scene, weaving together songs about mythology and the cosmos, obscure Philip K Dick characters, the ominous warning of AI, trees as secret portals, Jungian archetypes, and childhood fever dreams. Theya’s songs celebrate the spirit of triumph, deeply embedded in the music of the psyche. Theya creates songs for themselves as troubled youth obsessed with music and the redemptive powers of rock and roll.
Their debut full-length was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Tim Green at Louder Studios (The Fucking Champs, Earthless, The Melvins). Theya’s debut is a sonic experience that transports the listener to another world. Listen along as if it were the first time you sat down in front of your record player, dropped the needle down, and devoured every lyric, riff, and melody.
